After running out of my Aesop face wash and my Simple face wash (I’ve been using both - one after the other for quite a while) I thought I’d try something new that I haven’t used before. And seeing as I was in Vegas when i ran out of my cleansers, there was only one thing for it - something from Sephora.
For those that don’t already know, Sephora is a cosmetic store chain in America that stocks pretty much every beauty brand you could possibly wish for. From Anastasia Beverly Hills and Ole Henriksen to Glamglow and Huda Beauty, Sephora really is a one stop shop for makeup and skincare essentials. And so needless to say, when Marc and I made a visit to one of the Sephora stores in Vegas (we went to the one in Planet Hollywood), needless to say, I was pretty spoiled for choice.
And it wasn’t just the selection of brands that blew me away - it was all the different things that these cleansers pledge to do. The world of beauty is just so much more complex than it used to be and the endless list of ingredients and what those ingredients do is obviously amazing, but a little overwhelming at the same time. So, to help narrow down my search a little, I decided to look solely at the Sephora own brand collection of skincare to see what that had to offer.
Immediately, the Sephora Clean Skin Gel stood out to me as it mentioned it’s toning qualities. I don’t know about you but I just love products that tone the skin and leave it feeling really taut and smooth. Well-toned skin is also much less likely to break out, too, as all the dirt and grime we are exposed to through the day can’t get into our pores. Brucey bonus.
Cost wise, the Sephora Clean Skin Gel was more than affordable at a reasonable $10 dollars, which if I’m not mistaken, works out at around £8. And I have to say, it’s slotted into my skincare regime really nicely.
Earlier this year, I made the decision to stop spending so much money on luxury skincare products and start experimenting with purse-friendly alternatives instead. And in my opinion, the Sephora Clean Skin Gel cleanser is another high street skincare success story.
As someone who has literally spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds on skincare products in the past (I used to spend between £100-£150 per month, which sounds crazy to me now!) I feel that my knowledge of skincare and my understanding of what is and isn’t a quality product is pretty strong. And whilst it only set me back $10, I really do think this product does everything that a cleanser should do.
This face wash is presented in a gel formula, but the texture of the gel is quite hard to describe. It’s almost like a loose, squidgey gel (sorry if that sounds a bit gross!) and the colour of the gel is clear with a very subtle green/blue tint. I find the gel really easy to apply - although I do tend to prefer thicker, slightly stickier formulas - and the smell of the wash is lovely and fresh, too. I think it’s so important for skincare products to smell fresh - I don’t know if it’s a mental thing for me, but if they don’t smell good, I just don’t trust them! I like to feel pampered and relaxed during my skincare routine, and lovely scents really do make such a difference!
Okay, now that I’ve covered the basics, I thought I’d talk about what makes this face wash different to others that I’ve tried in the past. So, first and foremost, let’s touch on the Amino Acid formula...
As I mentioned earlier, I’ve never experimented with Amino acids in skincare before - not knowingly at least - but having done a little bit of research in this area, I have found that this ingredient boasts the following benefits:
- Helps maintain hydration
- Helps improve texture and resilience
- Helps contribute to general health and appearance of the skin
After learning more about amino acids and now that I’ve used a product that contains amino acids, I would definitely be interest to invest in more skincare essentials of this type in the future. I think it’s often really difficult with skincare products to actually work out what is and isn’t sales jargon, but as this face wash is so affordable and as I have been so impressed with the quality of the product, I do believe that the ingredients are doing exactly what they claim to.
The packaging of the Sephora Clean Skin Gel isn’t the most exciting or luxurious that I’ve ever seen, but to be honest, that doesn’t really bother me too much. I feel that ultimately, this product does the job that it’s supposed to do, and it does it well, so overall, I would rate this face was 8/10. The only reason that the score isn’t higher is because I’d like the tube to be a little bit bigger, and I feel that the formula could be just a little bit thicker to avoid squeezing out too much.
I really hope you all found this blog post useful and I look forward to sharing more with you very soon!
Lots of love,
Grace x
