Cleansing the skin every day is just so important. We're constantly being reminded to cleanse, and for good reason. Cleansing the skin helps remove impurities and slough away any dead skin cells lying on the surface of the skin. If we don't cleanse our skin properly, we become more prone to breakouts and other skin problems and irritations.
I'm constantly pledging the importance of great skincare, and that's because I know how much of a huge difference it makes. Of course, there are a select few lucky souls out there who just seem to get away with having perfect skin and never having to do much with it, but for the majority of us, there is a level of maintenance that is required to keep our complexions in tip-top condition - especially those of us that wear makeup.
If you've ever read an interview with a celebrity in a beauty magazine, it's likely that at some point in that interview, they'll have been asked about their skincare regime and what their secrets are. And I can pretty much guarantee that the two first things they will say are:
1. Drink lots of water and
2. Always take your makeup off before bed
In the world of beauty, these two simple rules have become completely gospel, and trust me, those magazines might all say the same thing, but they certainly aren't lying. Now though, it's believed that there is a little bit more to it than just removing our makeup. Heck, some people still use baby wipes to remove their makeup (I will share another post on why this is so bad, but take my word for it, baby wipes are not your friend!)The big thing right now, and one of the more recent revelations in skincare is the 'double cleanse' ritual, and I've got to say, I'm totally on board with it.
So, what is this 'double cleansing' thing all about? In short, double cleansing is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin - cleansing the skin twice, as opposed to just once. The idea behind this is to remove makeup and impurities in the most effective way possible. It's advised that to begin with, the makeup is tackled with micellar water and cotton pads, and then afterwards, using a regular face wash to ensure that the skin is as fresh, clean and clear as possible.
I have to admit, in my younger years, I was pretty careless with my skincare. I've always removed my makeup before bed, but I didn't always use a proper face wash to cleanse - sometimes just a cream cleanser or, though I hate to admit it, sometimes even baby wipes (we've all committed this crime once or twice in the past!) These days, though, I'm much more particular about my skincare regime, and for me, cleansing is perhaps the most important part of my beauty regime.
Now, as you guys know, my favourite skincare brand is Clarins. I've been a Clarins lover for years now, and no matter how many other alternate brands or products I try, Clarins is the brand that I always go back to. Clarins is a luxury, French skincare brand that specialises in complexion-perfecting skincare and cosmetics - no matter what skin type you have, your sure to find a range of products that works for you with Clarins.
My bathroom cupboard is crammed full of gorgeous Clarins goodies, but right now, two of my ultimate favourites are my Clarins Water Purify One-Step Cleanser with Mint Essential Water, and my trusty Clarins Cottonseed Cleanser. Together, these two products make for the most amazing double cleanse routine.
How I Double Cleanse
I start by taking my One-Step Cleanser and transferring a small amount of product to a cotton pad (this stuff is really good, so there's no need to saturate the pad completely). I then sweep the cotton pd over my entire face - including my eyes - until I'm confident that the vast majority of my makeup has been removed. This cleanser is gorgeous - not only does it smell minty fresh, it leaves the skin feeling fresh and refined, too. I love it.
But, for optimum results, double cleansing is the way forward. So, next up, I grab my Cottonseed Cleanser and squeeze a pea-sized blob into the palm of my hand, before dotting the cream evenly on my face. Once the product is completely massaged in, I begin to mix the wash with lukewarm water to create a bubbly, foaming effect. If for whatever reason I was in a hurry, I would remove the wash straight away to save time, but generally speaking, I like to leave the foam on my face for 1-2 minutes to allow it to properly work and penetrate more deeply into my pores. To rinse away the foam, I use lukewarm water, followed by cold water to close my pores up and prevent any pesky impurities.
Once my double cleansing ritual is complete, I'll continue with all my usual products (toner, moisturiser, eye cream and so on) and the job's a good'un! My skin feels fresh, revived, clean and clear, and really, what more could you possibly want from your skin?
I really hope you enjoyed this blog post and I can't wait to share more with you soon.
Lots of love,
Grace x
