Blogging is something that I’m genuinely passionate and while there are much better known bloggers than myself out there, I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved so far with Exclusively Grace. And I suppose that’s just one of the many reasons why I feel somewhat protective of both this industry, and other bloggers.
There really is a lot of confusion surrounding bloggers and what we, as a collective, actually do. Equally, there are a lot of question marks around the money and gifting side of things.
So, in a bid to clear up some of the confusion and try to give you all a bit of clearer insight into what being a blogger actually involves, I’m going to attempt to answer as many blogging-related questions as a possibly can, as well as busting a few blogger myths along the way.
I really hope you enjoy and of course, if at the end of the post you are still left with some unanswered questions, please don’t hesitate to pop them in the comments box below.
Your Questions Answered
1. How do you balance a full time job and being a blogger?
This is something that, quite honestly, I’m still finding my feet with. Whilst I’ve been blogging for years now, I think it’s taken me such a long time to find a healthy work and blog balance - and I think this is something a lot of bloggers will be able to empathise with.
Some bloggers are fortunate enough to be able to run their blog as a full-time job and the income from their blog is high enough to cover the likes of their car, mortgage, bills and everything else they need/want to buy. But for me, right now, that isn’t the case. If I’m completely honest, though, I really enjoy my full time job and even if my blog did make me an extortionate amount of money, I’d still like to keep hold of my ‘actual’ job.
For those that don’t know, I work as an SEO Content Executive for a huge online retailer and I absolutely love it! Blogging is a huge part of this job, too, so I really do spend a lot of time blogging.
2. ‘Bloggers and influencers are the same’
Few things annoy me when it comes to the false assumptions/statements about blogging, but this one really does irritate me a little.
To clear this up once and for all, I can 100% officially confirm that bloggers and influencers are not the same.
Sure, there are similarities between the two, but ultimately, these two ‘profession’ so to speak, are actually very different indeed.
The first thing to note here is that bloggers are writers and influencers are not. While bloggers tend to run their own websites and blogs where there share articles and photographs, advice and posts, influencers on the other hand are the guys that have lots and lots of followers on social channels such as Instagram.
Influencers are often paid/gifted to promote certain brands and products. Bloggers, too, are gifted and paid in this way, but rather than posting a picture on their social channels, they also write a blog post to detail more about to product/brand, too.
3. How do you measure the success of your blog?
I’m so pleased with the way my blog has grown - and I feel that more recently in particular, there have been so many esctivinf developments with my blog.
In terms of measuring the success of my blog, there is no singular, specific way in which I do this - instead, I go off a number of different things. For example, website visits, bounce rate, domain authority, collaborations, gifted products, feedback from companies and more.
4. ‘Anyone can be a blogger’
While technically, this is very much true, I would argue that there is a heck of a lot of hard work that goes into blogging - and this is something I think many people really struggle with.
As I touched on earlier, the balance between work life and running a successful blog isn’t always easy to manage, and I know several people that have tried their hand at blogging, and given up fairly quickly. There’s nothing wrong with this, but I think that really does prove just how much of a commitment blogging really is.
5. How much money can you make from blogging?
I’m going to be that really annoying person here and quote the classic saying ‘how long is a piece of string?’ Unfortunately, I really cant provide one set answer for this, because there actually isn’t one. Some bloggers don’t earn any money from their blogs, some earn between £50 and £500 a month, and others earn £50k plus the rest. This all depends on who the blogger is working with, how popular their blog is, how well designed their blog is and so on.
In my opinion, if you are earning money from your blog, then you are definitely doing something right. It’s a huge achievement to be self-sufficient in this way.
6. What is the hardest thing about blogging?
I really love blogging, and while I wouldn’t describe it as ‘hard’, being s blogger does come with its challenges - and none more testing than the feeling of being tired.. all the time!
Sometimes, I feel as though I literally never stop writing and there have been times when I’ve literally been sat at my laptop forcing myself to keep my eyes open. Like I say, blogging is a huge commitment and all that writing really does take it out of me sometimes! Thank the lord for coffee, eh?!
I recently shared a blog post,
‘What To Do When You’re Feeling Run Down’ and I find that each of these tips really help me to hit refresh & receive myself when I’m feeling exhausted - so be sure to check that out!
7. What’s the best thing about blogging?
There are so many great things about blogging but I think for me personally, working with so many amazing people and so many brands that I love is just a dream come true.
I feel like with blogging, I get to write about things I am genuinely passionate about & at the same time, I’m also given the opportunity to try so many fabulous products, which is just incredible.
I know that there are probably tons more things you would love to know / hear about blogging, so if you do have any more questions or you simply want to find out whether or not something is true about blogging, please do comment below - I’m always happy to give you my honest opinion & answer any queries you may have.
