ARE EXPENSIVE BEAUTY PRODUCTS BETTER OR SHOULD WE BE SAVING OUR MONEY?

It's a question that we'd all like the answer to - are expensive beauty products better than affordable beauty products? And if so, why? Well, unfortunately, as with a lot of other things in life, the answer to this beauty FAQ isn't quite so clear-cut. In short, yes, sometimes, it's worth paying more for your beauty products - but then again, in other cases, it really isn't. Thanks to affordable skincare dupes and ever-improving high street makeup alternatives, on the whole, it isn't altogether necessary to spend a small fortune these days...

But that doesn't mean that I haven't done it before. In fact, it actually makes me shudder a little bit to think how much I used to spend on my skincare products.

Bobbi Brown Makeup Must-Haves

I'm quite happy to admit that with some products, I am a bit of a snob, really. There are some makeup products and skincare products that I simply won't scrimp on and that I truly believe are well worth the splurge. However, unlike the old days where I bought only premium brand beauty products, I am now much more open minded about high street swaps.

So, how do I decide between a £25 concealer, and a £9 concealer? And what makes me willing to blow £50 on a foundation when I could spend less than a tenner?

Well, it's all about trying and testing the products first. Make no mistake, I have spent a heck of a lot of time swatching makeup and skincare products on my hands & arms over the years - and it's been this repeated trial and error that's led me to this point. Now, I feel like I have a very well-rounded understanding of what to buy & what not to buy.

So, here's my general rule of thumb: Nine times out of ten, premium brand makeup products are better than high street makeup products. Skincare wise, I think you can afford to spend less.

At this point, I'd like to clarify that this isn't always the case, but in general, this is what I've found, personally.

With makeup, I don't mind spending more to get great quality. In general, I find that with face makeup in particular (foundations, bronzers, blushers and highlighters), that the texture and finish of premium brand products is just so much more flawless than it is with cheaper alternatives. So, I tend to rely on brands such as MAC, NARS, Charlotte Tilbury, Stila & Bobbi Brown (to name a few!) to paint my face. That being said, I've tried many high street concealers (I'm currently loving the Revlon ColorStay Concealer), and I also swear by my trusty Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara - which I've been using for years - so I'm certainly not opposed to saving the pennies where possible.

Moving onto skincare, like I say, I'm much happier to shop the high street when it comes to my skincare products.

I suppose everybody will have their own opinions/stance on this debate, but I've found that there are some truly incredible affordable skincare brands out there - and so spending £30 on a cleanser doesn't matter to me quite as much anymore (although the occasional blowout in Kiehl's is essential.)

A few of my favourite skincare brands at the moment include Elf, Garnier and Simple - all of which are really affordable & can be picked up in a selection of different stores. Today I also did an online beauty haul & I've bought a few products from Revolution Skincare, too, so I'll be reviewing those on here as soon as I've had the chance to give them a fair trial. Just watch this space!

To summarise this blog post, I thought I'd round things up by saying that we each have our own vision and expectations when it comes to beauty, and what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. So, if you want to spend £5 on a toner, then do it, and if you want to spend £60 on a face oil, then do it! My only advice with this would be to just do as much research as possible before you invest in anything, particularly if it's got a high price-point. There's nothing worse than feeling like you've blown your hard-earned cash on a product that made absolutely no difference. Trust me, I've been there!

I really hope you enjoyed this blog post & I can't wait to share more with you soon.

Take care, everybody!

Lots of love,
Grace x
