HEALTHY & DELICIOUS BREAKFAST IDEAS YOU'LL LOVE.

Health experts have been pledging the importance of breakfast for years, with the likes of nutritionists and diet experts persistently reminding us of the various health benefits gained from chowing down on a hearty but healthy breakfast. According to these foodie know-it-all’s, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And so it only makes sense that we make a conscious effort to fuel up with as many nutrients and vitamins as possible.

Personally, I’ve always eaten breakfast and I’ve always enjoyed it. By the time I get up in a morning, I am genuinely ready to eat. In fact, hunger is sometimes what wakes me up from my sleep. So, it’s extremely rare that I don’t eat in a morning.

However, a lot of people still struggle to eat properly first thing - and this can be due to a whole number of reasons (a mixed up routine, snacking too late the night before, not actually knowing what to eat in a morning.) So, for this blog post I thought I would help inspire everyone and hopefully get as many people as possible eating a good breakfast every morning by sharing some healthy and delicious breakfast ideas. I’m absolutely not a nutritionist and will never claim to be, but I am really passionate about healthy eating and living a healthy lifestyle, so I do know a thing or two about this stuff!

Anyway, I really hope you enjoy.

This was the breakfast I made for Marc & I on our 1st wedding anniversary weekend. It was delicious!

1. Breakfast smoothie

Smoothies are 100% my favourite way to start the day at the moment. There are just so many different, delicious smoothie recipes out there to try and I’m finding them particularly refreshing yet satisfying in this warmer weather.

Some mornings, I will have a really fruity smoothie with say, banana, strawberry and raspberry, and then other mornings, I’ll go for something a little more indulgent (but still super healthy!) like a banana mocha smoothie. I find that the best place for smoothie recipe ideas is Pinterest.

2. Porridge

Porridge (or oatmeal if you’re from the US) is such a wonderful source of nutrition and a great way to fuel up for the day.

I’ll usually make up my bowl of porridge using porridge oats, almond milk and a pinch of cinnamon for added flavour. Toppings wise, blueberries, raspberries and black cherries are my go-to fruity flavours, and I’ll always sprinkle a selection of seeds on top, too. Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds and flax seeds are full of protein and will help keep you satisfied for longer - winner, winner.

I spent so long getting the perfect photograph of this porridge creation - can you tell?!

3. Pancakes

It’s rare that I’ll have pancakes for breakfast, to be honest, but I made some this past weekend for mine and Marc’s anniversary breakfast, and they were just delicious!

Pancakes (or crepes - whichever you prefer) can be pretty much as healthy or unhealthy as you like - this all depends on the toppings that you go for. At weekend, Marc and I properly indulged and topped our pancakes with strawberries, green yoghurt, honey and chocolate. For a lower calorie option that’s still full of flavour, you could easily swap the chocolate for an extra serving of berries (blueberries work great with pancakes!) and pop some nuts or seeds on the top for some added crunch.

4. Omelette

Marc is really into his omelettes, and they really are full of goodness, so whilst I personally don’t really eat them much, i thought it was worth giving them a mention.

What’s great about eggs is that they’re really filling and they can be jazzed up in a variety of ways. For a scrumptious breakfast omelette, try adding spinach, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and a sprinkling of your favourite cheese. Yummy!

5. Flapjacks

You just can’t beat a soft yet chewy chocolate-smothered flapjack, but believe it or not, you actually don’t need to stuff your flapjacks full of sugar In order to get your flavour fix.

For a healthy breakfast flapjack, replace chocolate chips with a selection of dried fruits (cranberries and sultanas work a treat!). To instantly bump up the nutritional value and make for a brekkie that’s super satisfying, Chuck in a decent handful of seeds and nuts.

5. Granola

I love granola. I love the sweetness, I love the crunch... granola is just good - and it’s an all-time breakfast favourite of mine.

The only issue with granola is that it’s often packed full of refined sugar - particularly if it’s shop-bought - and so there are a lot of mischievous hidden calories.

The solution? Make your own.

It might sound like a bit of a drag, but granola is actually super easy to make snd by doing it yourself, you’ll be able to steer clear of sugar, additives and preservatives.

For the best healthy granola recipes, once again, Pinterest has got you covered.

6. Fruit salad

And finally, this list simply wouldn't be complete without mentioning one of my favourite things to eat pretty much ever - fruit salad!

For me, the very best fruit salad consists of melon, kiwi, grapes, strawberries, blueberries and pineapple - but the great thing with this is that you can use literally whatever fruits you like.

The one drawback with eating a fruit salad for breakfast is that it isn't the most filling option for a meal, so if you're anything like me, you'll probably find yourself with your head inside the fridge an hour later. So, to make your fruit salad a little more satisfying, try teaming up with some natural Greek yoghurt, a small handful of granola and a drizzle of honey.

I really hope that this post has inspired you to get creative at breakfast time & I can't wait to share more with you soon!

Lots of love,
Grace x
