As most of you will now know, I am officially a mummy. I know - I can’t believe it! Being a mum is honestly the most amazing privilege in the world & I've genuinely never felt so fulfilled.
Bur of course, now that there’s a tiny little person that’s completely dependent on me for everything, there are aspects of my life that have had to take a back seat.
The amount of time that I now have for myself is obviously a lot less than it was before, and simple tasks like having a shower or bath and doing my hair & makeup are now a lot trickier. I’ve had to reduce the time that I spend doing all these things, and work our a way to keep Eric happy and entertained whilst I’m doing so.
For me, a little bit of pampering is essential and something that keeps my own mental health in check. I like to look and feel good and so it’s important that I established an efficient routine that would keep both myself and Eric happy.
And I’m going to share all my beauty tips for new mums right here in this blog post - so you can continue to look gorgeous and feel great even on the most tiring days of motherhood.
I really hope you enjoy!

No matter what, a smile is always the most beautiful thing you can wear! |
1. Always use eye cream
Unless you’ve got an au pair or live in help that’s committed to taking over all of those exhausting night feeds, then chances are you are feeling pretty burnt out at this point. And when you feel absolutely shattered, it only makes sense that at some point, you’re going to look shattered, too.
If dark circles, eye bags and puffy eyes are becoming familiar complaints, it’s time to invest in an eye cream or two. Everybody wants to know how to get rid of dark circles and how to get rid of eye bags without makeup, but whilst there isn’t a hard and fast ‘cure all’ answer, so to speak, treating your eyes to a cream or treatment of their own definitely helps. The Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado is one of my favourites - it’s so intensely nourishing. I also love the CeraVe Eye Repair Cream & the Clarins Extra Firming Eye Serum. The eye cream I’m currently using is the CeraVe one and I really like it.
2. Invest in a clay mask
Clay masks are great for extracting all those nasties hidden beneath the surface of our skin, and they’re also perfect for brightening the skin and smoothing the out the texture of our skin, too.
I’ve always been a huge fan of face masks as I find that my skin just looks so much more radiant after using them, but since becoming a mum, I appreciate clay masks even more than I used to.
The face mask that I’m currently using and absolutely swear by is the L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask. I remove this mask using a flannel and luke warm water.
A couple of other face masks I’d recommend would be the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque and the Clinique City Block Charcoal Mask & Scrub. No matter your budget, with so many fabulous products on the market, you’re bound to find one that you love.
3. Use products containing glycolic acid
Using skincare products containing acid has become the norm, but not all acids are the same. In fact, each different acid for the skin boasts different properties and benefits, so it’s important to understand what you’re buying and what you’re applying.
Want to how how to brighten skin naturally? Glycolic acid is 100% the way to go.
For those that have been wondering how to get glowing skin, glycolic acid is the answer. Products such as the Pixi Glow Tonic and Revolution Glycolic Acid Toner have been formulated with glycolic acid and when applied, instantly reawaken and brighten up the complexion. The benefits of these products are pretty instant, but the results are long-lasting, too. I use a glycolic acid toner twice a day to keep my skin looking fresh, bright and radiant. You’d never know I’m surviving on just a few hours sleep - it’s like magic!
4. Use an illuminator or liquid highlighter
Tired, lacklustre skin is normal for any parent, but during the early wishes of motherhood we tend to notice it so much more.
The good news is that those complexion qualms can be resolved quickly and easily using a few drops of illumator or liquid highlighter. Apply all how the face for a major glow up by mixing with either your tinted moisturiser or foundation. Alternatively, for a more subtle finish, apply to the cheekbones, tip of the nose and Cupid’s bow. I apply a touch to the forehead and chin, too, but this is a personal choice and some may find this a little too much. It’s up to you!

5. Use a concealer 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone
Concealer is a friend to everybody - especially on those days when we’re looking particularly tired and burnt out (which let’s face it, is how us mums look most days in the beginning!)
I have a few favourite concealers (check out my blog post 'What is the best concealer?' to find out more) but no matter which brand or product I’m using, I always go 2-3 shades lighter when applying to my under eye area. This simple trick works wonders for tired-looking eyes, instantly brightening the area and masking those tell-tale signs of exhaustion.
The concealer I’m currently using is the Max Factor Facefinity Concealer and I use the lightest shade (Ivory I think!) Some of the best concealers for dark circles are the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and L’Oreal True Match Concealer.
6. Get your brows and lashes done
Applying mascara and eyebrow pencil used to feel like a quick task, but now that I’m a mum, I am suddenly realising just how long I used to spend doing my makeup. Well, actually, it was probably only about 15 minutes max, but when there’s a tiny little person that demands a lot of attention to contend with, those 15 minutes are very valuable indeed.
The solution? Make the job of getting ready in a morning easier for yourself by getting your eyebrows and eyelashes done professionally.
HD brows, brow lamination and henna brows are all popular semi-permanent brow treatments, meanwhile LVL lashes is a great option for those that want their lashes to look like they’ve got mascara on from the moment they wake up.
If your struggling to decide which treatments to get, speak to your beauty therapist to help work out the best treatment for your needs & wants.
7. Apply a facial tanner
If you ask me, every woman should own a bottle of fake tan. Fake tan offers a glow-up that lasts for days, making that morning beauty regime a heck of a lot easier.
I’ve spent years investigation what is the best fake tan for the face and on my journey, I’ve discovered a plethora of premium fake tan products and high street fake tan products alike.
For me though, the best fake tans for the face has got to be the St Tropez Purity Mist For Face.
I love the St Tropez Self Tan Purity Face Mist |
8. Exfoliate regularly
I actually exfoliate my skin every day, which may seem a little excessive, but since finding a gentle cream exfoliator that really works for my skin, my complexion has never looked better.
Face scrubs are great for maximising radiance and enhancing radiance as they effectively slough away any dead skin cells and help increase the production of collagen. A good exfoliating will also help to improve the surface texture of the skin, smoothing over any lumps, bumps and imperfections to reveal a clear, blemish-free base.
9. Apply an overnight treatment
Overnight skincare treatments are wonderful and there are loads to choose from. Needless to say, the price range for such products is pretty vast, and so it’s important to address your budget when shopping for the right treatment - but the good news is that there are plenty of luxury and affordable products to choose from.
I absolutely adore the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and I also love the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum. However, at the moment I’m using the Nivea Q10 Sleeping Melt In Mask, and I have to say, considering it’s so affordable, it’s actually fab! I always wake up with super smooth, hydrated skin, which is exactly what I want.
This product is great - and super affordable! |
10. Stay hydrated
And finally, I’m going to say that one thing that everybody gets bored of hearing when it comes to skincare, but it really is so important - drink lots of water!
No matter how many expensive and effective skincare products you use, if you aren’t hydrated, your complexion will never look it’s best. I drink tons of water - even more now I’ve had Eric - and I think that’s one of the main reasons I’m still managing to look human on most days!
If you struggle to drink water, try flavouring your H20 with a sugar free cordial, or invest in some herbal tea bags. Twinings have some amazing cold infusion tea bags that are completely sugar free and so tasty! I love them.
And that’s just about it! I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post and I can’t wait to share more with you all very soon.
Until next time, lovelies.
Lots of love,
Grace x
