The foundation that I’m currently using, and have been using
since Janaury, is the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in the shade ‘Punjab’. I’m
absolutely obsessed with this foundation and I’ve recommended it to so many
people since I first started using it! However, I do believe that the way in
which a makeup product is applied can definitely amplify the effect the product
has, and really give it the ‘wow’ factor.
The amount of articles that I’ve read on how to apply
foundation is countless – I have literally read so many. And guess what? They
all say something different. I think that the way in which we apply our
foundation is a very personal thing, just like the type of finish we like is a
personal thing. Whilst some people prefer dewy finishes, others prefer matte.
And the application of foundation is the same – some prefer to use a beauty
blender or sponge, whilst others use their fingers or a brush.
Personally, I like to use a brush. Way back when (and I’m
literally talking back in my college days), I used to apply my foundation with
my fingers, but now I’m a little bit more fussy, and I find that the finish I
get with a brush is much more even. I also try not to touch my face so much as
I’m conscious of bacteria (despite washing my hands more than I probably
should).
The thing is, there’s nothing wrong with applying your
foundation with your fingers or with a sponge – it’s just that these methods
don’t work for me personally. My frustration with sponges is that they seem to
absorb a lot of product – or it certainly seems that way – and I also find that
the product just doesn’t spread as easily as it does with a brush. In terms of
fingers, besides the points I mentioned earlier, it genuinely reminds me of how
bad my makeup used to be – and there’s no way I’m going back there!
Although I’ve been applying my foundation with a brush for
many years now, the brands and types of brushes that I’ve used has chopped and
changed quite a lot. I find that I obsess over one particular brush for a while
and then I’ll come across something better and never use the other brush ever
again. I like to mix things up, but once I find something that works for me, I
do stick with it for some time.
At the moment, I am using an amazing brush from RealTechniques, which is one of my favourite ever brand of brushes. The brush in
which I am using is actually a buffing brush, as opposed to a single purpose
foundation brush, but I find that this brush creates the most amazing, almost
air-brushed finish. This brush quite literally buffs my foundation out
seamlessly, creating the most flawless-looking base without the need for tons
of product. This product is sold as part of the Real Techniques Core Collection brush set - one of Real Techniques' award-winning collections.

I really don’t like the look of cakey, heavy foundation, but
I do like my skin to look flawless and perfected, which is why I love this
brush so much. I love how smooth my skin looks after applying my foundation
with this brush, and I also love how easy it is to blend the foundation into my
neck. I regularly fake tan and so my neck is often a few shades darker than my
face, so it’s important that I can blend my foundation into my neck without any
obvious lines or stripes, and I find that this brush does the job perfectly.
If you’d like to find out a little more about RealTechniques brushes, and more specifically, the buffing brush in particular, head
over to the official Real Techniques website.
I really hope you enjoyed this blog post and I can’t wait to
share more with you very soon.
Lots of love,
