THE BENEFITS OF DRINKING GREEN TEA.

For some reason, drinking tea and coffee seems to fall hand in hand with being a writer. I’m constantly on the go with my writing, and I’ll be honest, some days, it can be really tiring, and really challenging. I need the odd pick-me-up to keep me going and to keep my brain alive as I’m tapping away at my desk. So, it goes without saying that I require my fair share of hot, comforting drinks to get me through the day.

Oddly, I never used to drink tea or coffee. I used to associate hot drinks with ‘old people’, which is a) very narrow minded and b) completely ridiculous. I drink way more than the recommended 8 glasses of water per day, but I’m also a sucker for a good latte and a well-made cup of tea.  There’s just nothing quite like a good brew, is there? But being the health-conscious little bunny that I am, I do want to cut my caffeine intake and replace my daily latte with something a little cleaner.

And what better way to cleanse the body and soul than with a wonderful cup of green tea?

Green tea seems to be one of those things that people either love or hate. Personally, I love it – not so much the traditional, plain, bitter-tasting green tea, but the naturally flavoured ones are great. My favourite at the moment is the Mango and Lychee flavoured one from Twinings. It’s really yummy and, providing you don’t leave the bag in for too long, there’s no bitter aftertaste, which is great.

Green tea is a fabulous replacement to regular tea and coffee as it’s bursting with amazing health-boosting properties. Not only is green tea a great weight loss aid, it’s also studded with cancer preventing properties and various other health benefits.

I recently re-introduced green tea back into my daily routine, and I already feel so much better for it. I’ve replaced my usual cup of English Breakfast Tea in a morning with a Pineapple  and Grapefruit green tea, and I’m also having one around midday, and one just before I go to bed to give my body a full detox whilst I sleep. I’m really not a fan of faddy, ‘miracle’ weight loss teas and that sort of thing – it just isn’t my style – green tea on the other hand, is right up my street.

And considering how great it makes me feel, why wouldn’t it be?

I just realised that I have mentioned weight loss a couple of times in this post already, so just for the record, I’d like to clarify that I am not trying to lose weight, nor is this the reason why I have started drinking green tea again. I genuinely feel that my general well-being is improved by drinking green tea, and I want to share them with you. Who knows? Maybe I’ll turn you green, too!

1.       My Skin Is Better – If there was ever a great reason to start drinking green tea, then this is most certainly it! I don’t know about you, but I’m skincare obsessed, and I’m all about improving the texture and appearance of skin from within. By looking after your gut, you could save a ton of money on expensive, premium brand skincare products, and you’ll feel great for it. Just like water, drinking lots of green tea and cutting out your trusty morning coffee will work wonders on your skin. Goodbye dark circles, hello bright, radiant, clear skin.

2.       I Feel More Awake – Strong cups of coffee are great for getting that quick burst of energy that we need, and working in an office, I can totally empathise with anyone that relies on their mid-morning cappuccino. However, since swapping my coffee for green tea, I feel so much more awake and alert. Green tea is caffeinated, but it’s also extremely hydrating, which makes it a much healthier option than your usual tea of coffee.  I definitely feel a lot less sluggish after lunch time!

3.       My Digestion Has Improved – Digestion is a weird topic of discussion. In fact, no, it isn’t weird, it’s just one of those things that beauty bloggers would probably prefer not to discuss. Let’s face it, any talk of bodily function has that risk of lowering the tone. But you know what? I don’t care. Digestion is a normal part of life, and it’s something that’s actually really important. Since re-introducing green tea to my diet, my digestive system seems to work a lot better. I’m guessing that this comes from the fact that green tea is great for flushing out toxins and chemicals. There’s probably more to it than just that, but either way, my body is in top working order, which makes me really happy.

I know that green tea isn’t for everyone, but if you haven’t already, I would strongly recommend giving some of the naturally flavoured versions a whirl. Twinings is the best brand for flavoured green tea, as they do something different to suit every taste and palette. If you’ve got a particularly sweet tooth and you’re trying to cut out sugar as well as caffeine, the Fudge Melts, Cherry Bakewell and Salted Caramel flavoured ones are amazing!

I really hope you enjoyed this blog post and I can’t wait to share more with you soon. Have a fabulous Friday, everyone!

Lots of love,

Grace x
