HOW TO FAKE TAN YOUR FACE.

A healthy golden glow is nothing short of a little piece of heaven. Rocking a gorgeous tan can make your confidence soar in an instant, and a subtle little faux glow is sometimes all you need for a quick and easy radiance boost.

As many of you will now know, I'm pretty much a tanning expert. I've tried and tested countless brands and tanning products over the years, so its's safe to say that I'm confident in my tan-assessing abilities.

And now, I want to share my knowledge with you!

You may or may not have seen my previous posts about my favourite self-tanners and why I love them so much, but if not, don't worry, they're all archived on the right hand side of the page under the header 'previous posts'.

In this post, I will be sharing with you by step-by-step guide on how to achieve the most flawless and enviable facial tanner result.

The product that I will be working with in this tutorial is the Clarince Radiance Boost Golden Glow for the face. In preparation for tanning, I will also be using Origins Gentle Microdermabrasion Scrub, my Liz Earle muslin cloth, and my Clarins Lotus Oil.

Okay, so first things first - preparation.

Preparation

The vitality of preparation when it comes to tanning has become fairly common knowledge, but I still have to emphasise the important of this step. Ill preparation of the skin will make for an unnatural looking tan that quickly fades - two things we really don't want. So, to avoid any unwanted mis-haps or disappointing results, pay close attention now.

My favourite scrub has to be the Gentle Microdermabrasion Exfoliator from Origins. One or two pea-sized blobs go a hell of a long way, and the texture of the skin after applying is just sensational. So, to prepare for your irresistible golden complexion, take a small amount of scrub and apply to areas that you feel need a little revitalisation. I usually pay close attention particularly to the nose area, and then gently massage the product across the rest of my face afterwards. Once you have massaged the product onto your skin, place the muslin cloth (or regular flannel if you don't have this) into a sink of warm water, ring out, and swipe over the face, continuing to very gently massage the beads as you wipe away the scrub from the face. This last extra little bit of exfoliation will help to really illuminate the skin, sloughing away any grime or dead skin cells thoroughly and effectively. When done, finish off by splashing cold water onto your skin, and wiping away with a cool muslin cloth to finally close the pores. At this point, your skin should be feeling pretty darn dreamy.

Tone up

I'm a seriously lover of toning products, as they really do help to keep pores lovely and tightly closed, making for a really beautiful, youthful complexion. I have a handful of go-to toners in my washbag, but before tanning, I don't like to overload my skin with astringent-based products, or anything overly harsh. So, to keep things simple and to nourish the skin as well as tone, I use my gorgeous Botanics Rosewater Toning Spritz. This toner is so easy to use as you literally just spray it onto the face (eyes closed of course) - and the liquid itself is so gentle. Rosewater is a natural toner that will both refresh and cleanse your skin. Once you have sprayed onto your face, take a cotton pad and lightly smooth the product over the face, helping the skin to absorb the product more effectively. Any pesky pores that were still open from the scrub should now be fully closed, preventing any unsightly blemishes or breakouts when we tan.

Moisturise

Moisturising is such an incredibly important part of the tanning process, and you'll hear this time and time again - but it's honestly so true. Moisturising helps provide a strong base for the tanning product, seeing to any dry patches or dehydrated areas of the face that need a bit of a plump-up. For my day-to-day moisturiser, I use the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo cream, however, in the evening, I prefer something a little more nourishing, so I use Clarins Lotus Oil. Clarins Lotus Oil is probably my favourite beauty product ever - I'd be lost without it. Use the applicator to squeeze 2-3 products into the palm of your hand, before dotting onto the face and massaging in gently. I usually dedicate a few minutes to this process to really moisturise the skin and allow it to properly soak up the goodness from the oil. This oil will give you an immediate glow, and feels like silk on the skin.

Tan

Okay, so we've finally reached the all important fourth step of the guide - the tanning part! So, you've done all of the hard work and preparation, and now it's time to get applying that tan. I absolutely love the Radiance Golden Glow Booster, and I'm confident that you will, too. Take the small cyllindrical tube and pump 2 blobs of tanning liquid into the palm of your hand. Then, add two more drops of Lotus Oil, and blend together carefully. Don't rush this, or you may end up pressing the product into the palm of your hand and tanning that instead of your face - so be very gentle! When it looks like the two liquids have melted together, dot the mixture onto the face, and blend in as you did before with lotus oil. Take time to massage the liquid into the skin, before washing your hands thoroughly.

When all of this is done, you can finally sit back, relax and wait for the magic to happen. In just a few hours, you'll be rocking that an enviable goddess-worthy golden glow.

I hope that you enjoyed my tutorial. What's your favourite facial tanner?
