HOW LONG DOES MAKEUP LAST & HOW TO MAKE YOUR MAKEUP LAST LONGER.

I think if there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s the fact that Makeup is a magical thing. Makeup gives us a glow when we need it most, and with just a quick slick of mascara, we instantly look more awake. It’s great! But how long does makeup last?

One of the most popular questions that people ask regarding cosmetics and beauty is ‘how long does makeup ask?’ And whilst there’s no definitive answer to this query, I’m going to do my best to talk to you on an ‘average’ basis and give you the best response possible. So, without any further ado, let’s talk longevity...

Okay, so if you’re wondering how long Makeup lasts for, then we first need to clarify what you mean by that exactly - because you could be asking one of two things:

1. How long does a makeup product last before it runs out?

2. How long does makeup stay on for before you need to reapply?

I’m going to answer both of these questions so that there’s no confusion with either.

So, firstly, how long does a makeup product last for before you need to replace it?

As with anything else, this depends a lot on your own habits, really, and how often you wear makeup/how much makeup you actually apply when you do use it.

As a rough guideline, I would always pay attention to the information written on your makeup canisters. Each product you own should actually be marked with a time period - for example ‘6 months’ or ‘12 months.’ And this timescale basically shows you how long the product will last for at its best. So, if you want to make the most of the original quality of the makeup product, using it up within this time frame, or replacing it within this time frame, is advisable.

For some, their foundation or their concealer will be long gone wayyy before 6 months has passed, because they wear makeup everyday. For others, though, they may find that they have to dispose of their makeup whilst there is still some product left - which is always infuriating! So, if you don’t wear makeup often or you like to rock a very natural makeup look, it may be worth researching ways to make your products last longer. One of my top tips for this would be to keep your makeup bag in the fridge - sounds weird, but trust me, it works!

Okay and secondly, how long does makeup stay on for before you need to reapply?

This depends very much on what you’re doing, Your skin type and the makeup products you’re actually using. Some heavy duty makeup products with a really full coverage can last pretty much an entire day, meanwhile lighter, creamier formulas - particularly those with a dewy texture - tend to wear off much more quickly.

If you’re determined to make your makeup stay on longer, it may be worth investing in a few new makeup products. Loose setting powders are great for creating a natural, flawless finish, all whilst setting your makeup perfectly - and by opting for a waterproof mascara, you can increase the longevity of your makeup, too.

Another top tip of mine for making your makeup last as long as possible would be to layer up your makeup. Light layers of makeup will help ensure your makeup truly stands the rest of time, all whilst creating a fabulously flawless finish. Perfect!

Some of my favourite face makeup products which I'm really loving at the moment are the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (I use the shade 'Punjab') and the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder - the two together stay on so well! I also love the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer - this product is perfect for really illuminating the complexion and brightening up the under eyes.

I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post & I can't wait to share more with you all soon! In the meantime, though, be sure to check out my recent post 'How To Look Pretty Without Makeup', for my top tips on how to look naturally beautiful.

Lots of love,
