ALDI LACURA LIQUID ILLUMINATOR REVIEW.

You guys know just how much I love my highlighter - I can’t leave the house without it! As soon as I discovered highlighter makeup whilst working in Ibiza back in 2014, for me, the makeup game changed forever and I’ve never looked back.

Since then, I’ve dabbled with numerous different highlighters including a selection of powder highlighters and cream highlighters. Most recently, though, I’ve been using a liquid highlighter from Aldi, of all places. And you know what? It’s actually brilliant.

Aldi have started to become renowned for their affordable makeup and skincare dupes, with popular products including the glycolic acid toner (a dupe of the Pixi glow tonic) and the cleansing pads (a dupe is the Nip & Fab glycolic peel pads). In fact, I’ve been hearing amazing things about their beauty products for quite some time now. Annoyingly though, the stuff I want never seems to be in stock when I finally get myself in there!

Luckily for me, the Lacura Liquid Illuminator was purchased for me as a gift by my mum. And so finally I can put Lacura to the test and give you my honest verdict of Aldi beauty products.

So, here goes.

Lacura Illuminating Drops Review

1. First impressions

My mum ordered me a lovely little Aldi haul straight to mine and Marc’s new house, packed with a bunch of Aldi home diffusers, Because she knows I love them (who doesn’t?!) - and of course, the little bottle of Lacura liquid highlighter.

My first impressions when I first clapped eyes on the packaging were that a) it didn’t look like an Aldi product - it looked like a makeup product you would find in Boots or Superdrug and b) it just looked really sleek and stylish. A good first impression to say the least, and one that made me even more excited to go on and physically try out the product.

2. Packaging

If a product is incredible, but the packaging is a bit tacky, then I try not to let this bother me. In general though, I do like the products I use to look and feel nice - it’s all part of the experience I guess. So how did the Lacura illuminating drops fair in this regard? Well, yet again, I was and still and very impressed with the packaging. The squared-off bottle is made from glass which I absolutely love and the droplet-style applicator is made from an easy-to-wipe black rubber. I’m always cleaning my makeup bag, so this is perfect for me. In terms of the rest of the packaging and any other details that are worth commenting on, i think id just like to say how minimalistic and classy Lacura have gone with the packaging. The Lacura logo is written down the left hand side of the product in a lovely lilac shade and then the words ‘liquid illuminator’ are etched on the bottom in black. It’s all very simple and sophisticated, which I love.

3. Applicator

I mentioned previously about the droplet style applicator, but I want to come back to it for this part of the review to talk about it in a little more detail. I love the droplet applicator as it’s super easy to use and almost completely mess-free. I simply squeeze a few drops of liquid highlighter onto the back of my hand before using my index finger to either dab directly onto the face, or blend with my usual face makeup. I am particularly loving the delicate pearly glow this product is adding to my usual tinted moisturiser - it makes my skin look so healthy and radiant.

4. Consistency

Okay, so whether it’s a liquid highlighter, a liquid bronzer or whatever, one thing that can be a struggle is the consistency of the product. Too thick and it can be difficult to blend, to runny and it ends up all over the place. But whats this one like? Well, if you ask me, this is yet another thing that Aldi have gotten absolutely 100% right. The consistency of the liquid is definitely thicker than I thought it would be, but this isn’t a bad thing at all as it’s still super easy to apply, and it doesn’t run everywhere. The texture and consistency of this highlighter is like a lovely, thick, creamy liquid, and application is effortless as a result. It’s a thumbs up from me.

5. Shade of product

Okay, so using the right colour with any makeup product is absolutely imperative, which is why we spend so much time shopping for the perfect foundation for our skin shade, the best concealer for our skin tone and so on (insert blogs here). But what about the best highlighter makeup? And what’s the colour of this one like? The shade my mum bought for me is called Champagne, which I would describe as a beautiful, soft, Ivory pearl colour. It’s a lovely warm shade, but one that could be used on cooler-toned complexions, too. To my knowledge, this product comes in approximately three different shades, so if for whatever reason you think the champagne colour might not be right for you, you’re sure to hit the jackpot with one of the other alternatives available.

6. Overall finish / End result

When you’ve used expensive, premium brand makeup products for so many years, it can be difficult to remove that element of skepticism when it comes to affordable beauty products. But the more I’m experimenting in this regard, the more amazed I continue to be. I honestly can’t believe just how fabulous this product is. I’ve tried out numerous high end liquid highlighters in the past, and truthfully, there’s absolutely nothing that those products are offering that this one doesn’t deliver also. After using this highlighter, my skin looks fresh, glowy and radiant and you certainly wouldn’t be able to tell whether the product was £5 or £50. It just looks great.

7. Value for money

And finally, let’s talk about value for money, something that we all want when spending our hard-earned cash on beauty products. The good news is, this product boasts a price point to suit every pocket, coming in at just £3.99 (yep, you read that right!) so it’s not going to break the bank in any case. Price point aside though, I honestly can’t believe how good this liquid highlighter really is. I love that it can be used in so many different ways, making it super versatile, and I’m just obsessed with the gorgeous glow it gives the skin. This product is definitely one that instantly enhances the complexion. I love it.

Taking everything into consideration - including the fact that I’ve been using this product every time I do my makeup - I think it’s safe to say that the Lacura Liquid Illuminator has 100% absolutely got my seal of approval, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone on the lookout for a new liquid highlighter. It’s fab!

I can’t wait to try more of the Aldi beauty dupes now! This has definitely wet my appetite for more!

I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post & I can’t wait to share more with you soon.

Lots of love,
Grace x
