It’s beauty cult classic that’s been doing the rounds for years and one that - at some point or another - we’ve all been instructed to get. But does the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream really live up to its reputation?
I bought my first ever tube of Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream about 8 weeks ago - just before we entered lock-down - and I’ve been applying it religiously ever since. It’s taken me until now to share this review because I wanted to provide as much detail as I possibly could on this product and just to give it the best assessment really. With makeup products we tend to know fairly immediately whether they’re up to scratch or jot, but with skincare, it can take quite a while to notice a difference or to really acknowledge the benefit, so I just really didn’t want to rush.
Now though, I’ve had my tube of Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Skin Protectant for approximately 2 months and at this point, I’m confident that I can give you an honest and accurate review of it. So, here goes.
To kick off this review, I thought I’d do things a little bit differently and go into detail about what I love about this product. Firstly, I absolutely love the packaging. This isn’t actually the original packaging for this product - it’s special edition - but I just love how colourful and pretty it is. I also like the simplicity of the design - a classic tube style packaging with a screw-open lid. The design of the packaging with this product makes for a fuss-free application with zero gimmicks. Happy days.
Another thing I love about this product is the texture of the cream itself - which, in truth, isn’t really like a cream at all. To me a cream is something that actually resembles cream in one way or another - and that has a creamy texture. To me, the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream is more like a paste, or a gel. The consistency of the product is thick like a balm, and when applied to the face, it feels instantly nourishing. Colour wise, the product boasts a distinctive reddy-brown hue, but as soon as you begin to work the product into the skin, this colour disappears. Afterwards, a glowy, healthy-looking visage is all that remains - ahhhh!
Normally with this facial cream, the RRP stands at around £28 - £30 depending on where you buy it from, but I was lucky enough to pick up mine and my mum’s tubes (I treated her to one too!) from Fragrance Direct for half the price as it was on promotion. So yeah, price wise, yet again, I was a very happy bunny as it always feels great to have saved a bit or cash. But honestly, if this cream was never on offer again I would still continue to repurchase, because it’s fab!
Now that I’ve talked about the various different things I love about this face cream, I thought I’d go into a bit more depth about what makes this product different and what the cream is actually designed to do. Elizabeth Arden markets this product as a skin protectant, and I feel that this summarises the product very well indeed. When the balm is applied to the skin, the deep conditioning formula instantly acts as a barrier, protecting the skin and enhancing its condition. For me, it’s great for the face as it just seems to refresh and regenerate everything overnight, but it can also be used to treat split ends, sore feet, dry skin, chapped lips and a whole host of other issues. In short, it’s the ultimate multi-tasker.
As I’m sure you can tell at this point, I am a huge fan of this product. In fact, I’m actually angry with myself for taking so long to finally make the investment! However, there’s always at least one drawback with any beauty products - even if it’s only very minor - and this is no exception. So, for the simple reason that I want to keep this review entirely honest and balanced, I thought I’d touch on the fact that the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream is very tacky.
When going to bed, this tacky texture really isn’t an issue - but during the day, it can make makeup application a little less straightforward. I imagine a lot of people prefer to use this cream solely at night time to avoid any makeup sliding issues, but personally, I prefer to simply use a little less product and wait a good 30 minutes before applying any makeup.
To conclude this skincare review, I just thought I would state once more how fabulous this product really is. I honestly believe that everybody should have a tube of this face cream in their skincare collection. So, if you haven’t already, then I urge you to invest - you will absolutely 100% not regret it. It’s wonderful!
I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post and I look forward to sharing more with you soon.
Lots of love,
Grace x
