WHAT I EAT IN A DAY.

I’ve been really enjoying reading these blog posts and watching YouTuber’s vlog about what they eat in a day, so I thought I’d follow suit and share my own what I eat in a day blog post with you all.

I’m currently 29 weeks pregnant, but my diet is virtually exactly the same as it was before I was expecting. A lot of women falsely assume that they should be eating more whilst pregnant, but in reality, this isn’t necessary at all. The most important thing - as always - is that I’m eating a healthy, well-balanced diet that’s packed full of nutrients that will benefit both me and the baby. I recently shared a blog post all about How To Stay In Shape Whilst Pregnant, so if you're expecting, you might enjoy this one.

Anyway, let’s get to it - this is what I eat in a day. I hope you enjoy!

What I Eat For Breakfast

Breakfast is actually probably my favourite meal of the day. I’m absolutely obsessed with berries, seeds, nuts and oats - so delicious and satisfying - so starting the day off with a hearty breakfast is easy for me. I love it!

An average breakfast for me is either porridge made with almond milk or oat milk, topped off with a selection of blueberries, seeds and cinnamon. On the days I don’t have porridge, I’ll make a smoothie instead. The smoothie I’m most enjoying making at the moment is a banana mocha smoothie - it gives me so much energy and tastes delicious. It’s also super easy to make - all you need is frozen bananas, freshly brewed coffee (decaf is fine), milk or dairy free alternative of your choice, unsweetened cocoa powder and ice cubes.

My current breakfast obsession is this delicious homemade banana mocha smoothie - it's delicious and so satisfying!

What I Eat For Lunch

I’ve been waking up a little later recently and so my lunches aren’t quite as routine as they were when I was working in the office. However, I do always make the effort to eat a healthy, nutritious lunch, which more often than not will be a whole meal pita bread stuffed with tuna, beetroot, spinach, cherry tomatoes and houmous. When I want an extra kick of flavour, I sprinkle cumin seeds in the pitta, too - so tasty!

What I Eat For Dinner

Dinner - or tea as we call it up north - is another opportunity for me to chomp on lots of delicious protein and nutrients, and whilst we obviously don’t eat the same meal every night, I do always ensure that our evening meals are full of veggies and either a lean meat or oily fish. A couple of my favourite dishes at the moment are chicken and vegetable stir fry, sweet chilli salmon and vegetables and homemade chicken and vegetable curry. I love food that’s full of flavour so I really enjoy dishes that are packed with tasty herbs and spices!

What I Snack On

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with snacking, as long as the snacks you eat are mostly healthy and nutritious, so I try not to punish myself on those days when I graze a little more frequently.

I actually do snack quite a lot, but most of what I snack on is fruit or vegetable based. I adore soft fruits like melon, kiwi, grapes, strawberries and pineapple so I make a lot of fruit salads, and I love eating cucumber and carrot sticks with houmous, too. I know there are a lot of arguments to say that houmous isn’t actually very good for us, but I try not to pay too much attention to everything I read and hear - it’s so confusing and often really contradictory.

A couple of the less healthy snacks that I like to enjoy in moderation include dark chocolate (just the cheap dark chocolate bars you get from the supermarket!) and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream (either Chocolate Fudge Brownie or Phish Food would be my top choices!) I don’t snack on these things every single day, but chocolate is definitely my vice when it comes to indulgences, so I always include something chocolatey on our weekly shop - it’s a proper treat, which I love.

I love eating healthily, so fruit salads are 100% one of my favourite snacks!

What I Drink Throughout The Day

Most of the time, I do just drink water, but I do enjoy a couple of cups of tea most days, or I’ll have one latte. As I’m pregnant, I try not to have too much caffeine, so like I say, i will usually limit my intake to either two cups of tea or just one coffee. I’m sure it’s probably safe to have more than this, but I like to take precautions wherever possible. We’ve got quite a few decaf options in our tea/coffee cupboard that are great for those days when I’m craving more hot drinks than usual, but they just aren’t quite the same as having a ‘proper’ brew, so most of the time, I prefer to stick to my limits than dip into the decaf alternatives.

One of the things people ask me most about when it comes to drinking habits and being pregnant is how much I miss alcohol. And the honest answer to this is that I really don’t! 99% of the time, not having alcohol doesn’t bother me whatsoever. As the weather has been so fabulous recently, there have been a handful of occasions where I’ve thought to myself ‘ooooh I would love an Aperol Spritz’ or I’ve just fancied an ice cold Prosecco with a strawberry, but the non-alcoholic alternatives available these days are just so good, I really don’t feel I’m missing out too much. One of my best friends, Steph, actually bought me a bottle of the Aecorn Apertifs Orange Bitters and some non-alcoholic Prosecco to have with it for the days when I’m craving a little bit of fizz, and it’s so nice - perfect for those hot and sunny days we’ve been getting so many of recently.

The Orange Bitters apertif from Aecorn Drinks is such a great non-alcoholic alternative to Aperol - I love it!

And that’s just about it, really! Obviously my diet does vary a little from day to day depending on what I’m doing and what I’m generally fancying, but in general, this is what my daily diet looks like - lots of fruit, lots of veg, lots of chicken and fish, and of course, a cheeky bit of chocolate here and there... a girl has to have her treats!

I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post & I look forward to sharing more with you all very soon.

Lots of love,
Grace x
