HOW TO KEEP BABY COOL WHEN IT'S HOT: TOP TIPS FOR KEEPING BABY COOL & COMFORTABLE IN SUMMER.

Just like mummy and daddy, Eric loves to spend time outside in the sun. We don’t get enough sunshine in the UK (especially not in Manchester!) Which is why, when it does come out, we are always super keen to get outdoors and make the most of it.

From crawling around on the lawn and enjoying picnics in the park, to reading in the garden and playing in the paddling pool, there’s no end to the list of things Eric loves to do in the sunshine. And needless to say, we really value this quality time with him.

But, with all of that said, there is one major stickler - knowing how to keep Eric cool in the sun.

I don’t know about you, but I find dressing myself alone hard enough during the summer months (winter fashion is so much more my bag) - but knowing how to dress a baby in summer and knowing all the top tips on how to keep baby cool in summer is a whole different ball game.

So, how do you keep baby cool when it’s hot?

For this blog post I thought I would step in to help by sharing everything you need to know about the different ways to keep baby cool in summer. I hope you enjoy!

Tips on how to keep baby cool and comfortable in summer

1. Dress baby in lightweight clothing

Linen baby clothes and pure cotton baby clothes are ideal for all the sunnier spells we are experiencing at the moment.

These fabrics are super breathable, allowing fresh air to circulate and preventing baby from getting hot and sticky.

I’m loving all the lovely little linen rompers and cotton dungarees at the moment, and Eric loves them, too. They are so comfortable for him to wear - and the fact that they’re ridiculously adorable is just a major added bonus!

2. Skip the vests

One thing that I’ve found particularly weird to adjust to is the fact that right now, I don’t need to layer Eric up.

Eric usually wears a baby vest under every single one of his outfits, but during this warmer weather, vests aren’t usually necessary.

Obviously, judge this for yourself based on how warm it is, but as a general rule of thumb, you’re better off keeping your baby a little bit cooler rather than too warm. It can be dangerous for a baby to overheat as they’re unable to naturally regulate their body temperatures.

My advice? Skip the vests and pay close attention to how warm your baby feels to touch. You can always take a lightweight jacket on days out with you if you’re concerned your little one is getting chilly.

3. Opt for baby sandals over trainers

I always find that if my feet are warm, everything else is warm, too.

And it’s much the same for babies.

So, if you’re looking for help on how to keep baby comfortable when it’s hot, be sure to swap their usual trainers or pumps for some nice fabric sandals.

We bought Eric some super cute Mickey Mouse sandals from primark recently and they’re been worth their weight in gold, honestly. I think they cost about £5 and he’s already had so much wear out of them.

A massive plus point is that they’re really easy to put on, too. Velcro straps are such a saviour!

4. Invest in a fan for baby's pram

We actually haven’t got a pram fan, yet, but it’s on our shopping list!

Designed to propel fresh air upwards, fans for prams pose a really simple yet effective way to keep baby cool in summer.

5. Spritz back of baby's neck with cool water

I’m always spritzing myself with a refreshing face mist during those warmer, sunnier months. It was only a few days ago that it occurred to me that I could do the same with Eric.

You don’t need anything fancy for this - just cool water in an empty spray bottle will work perfectly fine. Simply pour the cool water into the canister, screw the spray top back on and spritz away.

I tend to focus on the back of the neck as I think this area can become really warm.

6. Lots of refreshments is key

And finally, it goes without saying that during the warmer weather, your little bundle of joy will need more fluids than usual.

I regularly offer Eric water or a weak fruit juice, and he very rarely turns down the opportunity to take a sip. So, when it’s hot outside, I’m even more encouraging than usual.

Staying hydrated will not only help keep your baby happy & alert, but it will also help regulate his/her temperature, too. Drinking water or a water-based drink is one of the easiest ways to stay cool, so make sure you’ve always got a bottle handy.

And I think that’s just about it!

If I do think of anything extra to add to this blog post then I will of course edit it later on!

I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post & I can't wait to share more with you all very soon.

Lots of love,

Grace x
