WHAT TO DO WITH OLD BABY CLOTHES - 5 WAYS TO REUSE OUTGROWN BABY CLOTHES.

Nothing reminds me that Eric is growing super quick more than the fact that we’re constantly buying new clothes for him. And whilst it’s always lovely choosing gorgeous new rompers, baby grows and adorable little baby socks, packing the baby clothes he has outgrown into bags and boxes always leaves me feeling a little bit emotional.

It’s definitely one of those bittersweet parts of being a mummy - but I’m all about embracing the present, and if there’s one huge positive about saying good bye to all those tiny little baby clothes, irs the fact that there are tons of amazing things that can be done with them.

And I’m going to share them with you in this blog post! So, if you’ve been wondering what to do with old baby clothes, where to donate old baby clothes or how to upcycle old baby clothes, then you’ve arrived at the perfect place.

What to do with old baby clothes

1. Up-cycle them

There are now lots of small business owners that specialise in transforming old clothing into something new. From teddy bears made using muslin cloths, to tiny baby grows used to create beautiful, handmade baby blankets, these incredible up cycling geniuses are able to fashion something wholly sentimental and unique. So, if you’re really struggling to part with those adorable little newborn pyjamas, or you simply can’t bear to part with your little one’s christening outfit, this really is the most perfect solution.

2. Donate them to charity

Giving something back always feels great, and baby and toddler clothes are always greatly appreciated by charities. Newborn clothes in particular tend to get so little wear (babies just grow out of things so fast!) and so there is always somebody else that will want what your baby no longer fits into. And it really doesn’t matter how much you paid for the clothes, either. Be it a mini designer outfit or a super savvy supermarket buy, baby grows, vests and everything else will always be used and valued by another little family.

3. Donate them to a recycling bank

I recently donated two enormous bags full of Eric’s old clothes to TK Maxx as they were accepting clothing donations to support fundraising for Cancer Research. Some of the clothes would be reused, but those that were a little past their best could still be donated as they would later be recycled.

It’s good to find out if stores are running these sorts of schemes, as they contribute to such wonderful causes. But in any case, it’s good to know that there are lots of recycling banks up and down the country that you can pop clothes into.

4. Give them to a friend

I don’t know about you, but there is certainly a bit of a baby boom going on among mine and Marc’s friends at the moment, which presents the perfect opportunity to pass on some of the pieces that no longer fit Eric.

If one of your friends/family members/colleagues is expecting a baby, it’s definitely worth politely offering some of the clothes that aren’t of use to you any more. You may find that they are already completely stacked with baby clothes and don’t need anything else until their little one is 2, but still, it’s nice to ask, and more often than not, there’s something they’ll love to take off your hands.

5. Keep them

Okay, so personally, I try not to do this, as I do have the tendency to form a close attachment to various outfits and so on. I guess I just connect certain garments with my favourite family memories etc. But yeah, if I did this, I literally wouldn’t ever part with a piece of clothing again and we wouldn’t be able to close our front door because the house would be so full.

However, if you’ve got ample storage space and there are a few items that you just aren’t quite ready to get rid of, you can always place them safely in a drawer or in a basket. More often than not, when people do this, they eventually realise that there really is no use for a piece of clothing that just sits dormant at the back of a cupboard - but if you take some kind of comfort from knowing that it’s there, then you do you!

I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post and I can't wait to share more with you very soon.

Lots of love,

Grace x
