HOW TO RESCUE DRY SKIN: 9 EXPERT TIPS TO HELP FIX DEHYDRATED SKIN.

Whether you've been on a long flight, out in the cold or you simply suffer from dry skin in general, the perils of a dehydrated complexion are innumerable.

Dry skin is uncomfortable, itchy, sore and let's face it, it doesn’t look great, either.

So, how do you fix it? What are the best products for dry skin? And how do you get rid of dry skin for good? I’ve got everything you need to know right here in this blog post…

How to fix dry skin

1. Drink lots of water

You probably already do this, but if you don’t, hydrating your skin from the inside out is a great place to start. If we are lacking water internally, then our skin will be the first thing to indicate this. So, always have a bottle of water to hand and keep sipping away throughout the day, it really does make all the difference!

2. Hyaluronic acid is your new best friend

Hyaluronic acid is one of those ingredients we just can’t get enough to right now - and for good reason.

With its natural ability to lock in moisture, Hyaluronic acid keeps skin looking firm, plump and full of elasticity. It’s incredibly nourishing, effectively diminishing visible signs of dryness and actively targeting dehydration to reveal a brighter complexion.

A couple of the best Hyaluronic acid skincare products I recommend are The Ordinary Hyalyuronic Acid (which is super affordable, by the way!) and, as a bit more of a splurge, the Rodial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Mask.

3. Shop for Double Base Gel

Double Base is a product that every dry skin sufferer should own. It comes in a huge pump action bottle and as it’s designed for those with eczema / severe dryness, it works brilliantly on dehydrated skin,

Fast acting and super affordable, a bottle of this stuff will last you ages and unlike some products, it won’t put you out of pocket. Head to your local pharmacy to pick a bottle up!

4. Use a moisturising face spray

I love face mists - they’re super refreshing and they’re also perfect for giving the skin an instant boost of hydration on the go.

When shopping for a fact most, if recommended avoiding anything that contains astringent ingredients. Sprays with a high alcohol content or that are heavily perfumed will likely amplify your dry skin issues, so steer clear of these. Instead, turn your attention to rose water toners and those that contain aloe vera etc., as these will soothe and moisturise.

A couple of the best face mists I have used are the Temple Spa Toning Essence and the Garnier Rose Glow Mist.

5. Use an oil based cleanser

In the past, oil based cleansers have been given a bit of a bad name. The stigma surrounding oil based skincare products is that they will cause breakouts and accelerate sebum production. However, skincare experts are insistent that oily products are in fact great for our skin - especially for those of us with dry patches.

Dry skin needs all the help it can get when it comes to moisture, so it’s important that we feed our complexion with those crucial ingredients it needs. Oil based cleansers gently cleanse the skin without causing dehydration. I love the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil - it’s gorgeous and lasts ages.

6. Use hydrating face masks

Sheet masks are my favourite at the moment - there are so many to choose from and the results are instant, which I love.

Whatever the reason for your dry skin may be, having a handful of moisturising sheet masks stashed in your wash bag is a great idea. Ingredients wise, be sure to look for those containing Hyaluronic acid.

7. Avoid heavily perfumed skincare products

As lovely as fragranced products smell, unfortunately, unless that scent is naturally occurring in the ingredients, it is likely the product will make your skin even drier. Perfume strips the skin of moisture, which can leave the complexion crying out for thick creams and serums to boost hydration.

8. Try a soothing toner

There are some brilliant toners out there, but those with dry skin should shop with caution. Highly acidic toners and those with astringent ingredients can wreak havoc on dry skin, and so it’s best to avoid such formulas.

The good news is that there are some brilliant hydrating toners out there to choose from, too. The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner is a personal favourite of mine. The creamy, thicker texture is incredibly soothing and creates the perfect base for any serums, thicker creams and oils that may follow.

9. Invest in an intensive night treatment

Our skin repairs and regenerates overnight, which is why the products we apply before bed are so important. With the right creams, serums and oils, we can accelerate our skin's natural healing properties, encourage cell turnover, brighten our complexion and of course, repair any areas of dryness! So, if you're going to spend extra money on any skincare product in particular, make it your overnight treatment.

Intensive overnight treatments are one of my favourite things ever - I just love the deeply nourishing feeling they provide. There are lots to choose from, too, but for me personally, nothing quite beats the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. You only need a few drops of this stuff and it really does leave the skin looking and feeling beautiful (it also smells incredible - a major added bonus!)

So there you have it - 9 ways to fix dry skin fast.

I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post and I can't wait to share more with you all very soon.

Lots of love,
