Sometimes, I slip into the dreaded 'monday-mode' early on sunday afternoon. I can be having a really nice day and then I think of all the negative mondayisms that I dread, and my mood can just change. I mean, let's face it, after two days of lie-ins and doing whatever we want, the thought of an early start and going 'back to reality' is just so unappealing.
For me, I would have to say that the worst thing about mondays is the early morning get up after a couple of late nights. At weekend, I think I subconsciously tell myself that if I go to bed early, even if I'm tired, that I'm wasting my two days off. So, with that little nagging thought wedged somewhere in the back of my mind, I'll usually stay up till at least midnight. At least then I've made the most of my weekend, right?
Well, not really, no. Sure, it's great to be able to enjoy a later night at the weekend, but if you're waking up every single monday morning despairing about having to function so early on, then something clearly isn't working for you, and it could be time to switch things up a bit...
In this blog post, I'll be sharing with you my tips on how to beat the monday blues. What's stopping us from transforming plain old monday into #mondayfunday?
Okay, so first things first, I'd like to return to my earlier point relating to sleeping patterns and bed times and all the rest of it. I don't know about you, but every monday morning when my alarm starts ringing at 6am, I immediately think 'I can't do this right now - I'm too tired'. It's a regular routine - battling with the alarm clock, pressing snooze every ten minutes to avoid getting out of bed. Let's face it, getting up really early on a monday isn't nice, but you could make things a little bit better for yourself by going to bed an hour or two earlier on sunday night. By squeezing in an extra hour or two, you'll soon find that you're feeling much brighter and perkier on those (pretty cold) monday mornings, and you'll be much less likely to hit the snooze button. If you're sat there thinking 'I can't get to sleep if it's too early', then you're not alone. However, if when you first get into bed you have a nice little read of a good book, you'll soon feel your eyes becoming heavier, and before you know it, you'll have drifted off. It works. Try it.
Another one of my anti-monday-blues tips is to really make an effort with how you look. I think there is definitely some logic in the notion that we don't work as well when we don't feel we look our best, so why not allow an extra 5 minutes to perfect your hair, or prime your makeup? They do say that a woman is capable of anything as long as she's wearing the right pair of shoes, and it's just so true. On the days that I don't feel I look my best, then I usually won't perform to the best of my abilities, either. If on the other hand I'm feeling all glam and happy with how I look, I always feel much more motivated and ready to work.
And last, but certainly not least, instead of telling yourself all the things that you simply 'can't' do on a monday, make an actual list of all the things that you can do! Quite often on a monday, I will get myself into work about 30 minutes early, and begin tackling all of my 'life admin' at home to make sure that everything I need to sort out is done before I've even begun my new work projects. If at first you challenge yourself to sort out three things every monday that have been in the back of your mind for ages, you'll soon begin to realise that your 'can't do it' attitude towards mondays is the only thing that's holding you back.
Change your monday mentality, and I promise that you'll be feeling happier and more positive in no time at all. Throw in a couple of latte's, and you'll be loving life.
Stay tuned for more blog posts coming very soon, guys.
Lots of love,
Grace
