My mum is particularly special to me because she isn't just my mum, she's my very best friend, too. My mum and I have very similar personalities and we both enjoy doing the same things. We both love coffee. We both love cooking. We both love dogs. We both love long walks. We both love shopping. We both love fashion and beauty...
The list could honestly go on forever.

My mum and I have so much in common, and so I guess in that sense, my job as a daughter trying to pull out all the stops on Mother's Day is that little bit easier. Because my mum and I are so similar, I never find myself stuck for ideas of things to do, or what to buy, but I know that for others, this can be a little bit tricky. Heck, even if you do have loads in common with your mum, it can still be difficult to make a firm decision on what you'd like to do for Mother's Day.
So, with all of this in mind, I've decided to put together a list of my top 5 things to do on Mother's Day, as well as my top 5 gift ideas. So, here goes!
Top 5 Things to Do on Mother's Day
1. Spa Day
Or weekend if you really do feel like going all out! Spa days pose the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax and just soak up the chilled-out atmosphere. If your mum is anything like mine, she is constantly helping out and catering to other people's needs. Whether it's cooking or cleaning, my mum is forever doing things for other people, and I think it's so important to give her that opportunity to break away from all those everyday stresses and chores. A spa day with a couple of treatments, some fizz (alcoholic or non alcoholic) and a good old steam, sauna and jacuzzi session promises the ultimate opportunity to take some time out and think about nothing but having a great time.

2. Cook for Her
Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best, and one of the greatest things in life is when somebody else cooks for you, and you don't have to lift a finger! It doesn't have to be a five star Michelin dinner, it just has to be cooked by you, and obviously something that she likes. I recommend something simple but tasty like homemade pizza and salad - you can't go wrong!
3. Afternoon Tea
Going for afternoon tea is one of my favourite ever things to do, and it's also a great Mother's Day treat idea. Sweet treats, coffee and cream tea always go down a storm, so why not book in a lovely afternoon tea session? Around Mother's Day, there are tons of deals and offers available in every city, so free up a little bit of time to do some research, and get yours booked in now.

4. Take Her On a Shopping Trip
If your mum is anything like mine, she loves a bit of retail therapy! My mum is my favourite ever shopping buddy - we always have so much fun together - and it's true, it really is a type of therapy! Treat your mum to a few new beauty bits, accessories or clothing items and watch as her face lights up as you say 'I'll get that for you!' You'll make her day. Trust me.
5. Take Her for Coffee or Cocktails
Me and my mum love just sitting with a good coffee and watching the world go by, so what better way to spend mother's day than with a good latte and a chat? If you and your mum are partial to the odd tipple, cocktails are great for this, too. Take your mum to her favourite coffee shop, and make time to just sit, chat and have a great time with her. Leave your phone zipped away in your bag and concentrate solely on the two of you being together. Oh, and if you want to make things extra special, have a word with the bar or coffee place, and ask if there is anything extra they can do for when you arrive. They may just advise you to bring in some flowers that they will put on the table for when the two of you arrive - no matter what, though, that extra bit of detail will make all the difference to her.

Top 5 Gift Ideas
1. Flowers & Chocolates
Of course, I simply had to put this one at the top of the list! This fail-safe combo is a true Mother's Day classic, and one that's bound to leave her smiling from ear to ear. If you don't buy flowers often, or you aren't too sure what she likes, go for something classic like pink roses or carnations. Team these with some delicious chocolates and the jobs a good'un!

2. Perfume
A woman can simply never have too many perfumes, so if you're struggling for what to buy, why not treat your mum to a fresh new perfume? Find out what sort of fragrances she likes and do a bit of research to find something new with similar tones to it. Jo Malone perfumes make for the most amazing present as they're long-lasting, luxurious and there's just so much attention to detail - the packaging is so pretty!
3. Vouchers for a Facial, Nails or Massage
Literally, you can't go wrong. Every woman loves to be pampered, so why not give your mum the gift of an incredible pamper session by treating her to a fresh set of gel nails, a massage or a facial? Or, if you want to go all out, all three?! She will love it, and it's something that you can enjoy together.

4. A Purse or Handbag
Ahhhh, handbags and purses - pretty much every woman's idea of heaven! If you feel like having a little bit of a splurge and spending a little more money, luxury handbags and purses make for the most amazing gifts. I recommend brands such as Coach, Michael Kors and Kate Spade.
5. Makeup
And last, but certainly not least, the gift of gorgeous makeup is always a great idea. If you're quite clued-up with your cosmetics, offer to apply the makeup for her once she has unwrapped it - that way, she gets all the amazing products you've bought her, and she gets her makeup done for her, too! I love doing my mum's makeup for her - it's a simple treat but something that she always really appreciates it. If you're struggling as to which brand to choose, I recommend Nars, MAC, Charlotte Tilbury and Bobbi Brown.
And there you have it - all of my top Mother's Day ideas! I really hope you enjoyed this post, and hope that you and your leading lady have the most fabulous time together on 11th March.
Lots of love,
Grace x
