When it comes to everyday makeup and the way that I like my makeup to look, I do try to keep things fairly natural. I can't jump out there and say that it doesn't look like I'm wearing anything, because it does - and I'm fine with that. However, certainly as the summer months draw closer, I am growing increasingly interested in the no makeup look. I prefer not to wear foundation when it's hot - even the lightweight ones can feel heavy and masking - and I like my face to look super clean and fresh.
Technically, the no makeup look should be an easy thing to master, but actually, there is an art to it. Sure, you could just head outside with absolutely nothing on, but if you're like me and you like to wear just a little bit of something, you may appreciate a little bit of help on how to achieve the look you are trying to create. So, in this blog post, I am going to share with you my favourite products and how to use them to create a flawless natural makeup look.
This stunning tinted primer is my go-to base when creating a natural makeup look. Not only is it super lightweight, it moisturises the skin and it contains SPF 30. I love how radiant and glowy my skin looks when I apply this product - it literally is like an instant radiance boost. A pea-sized blob is plenty for me and the coverage I like, but there’s nothing stopping you adding a little more if you feel the need. To apply, I smooth the product with my fingertips as I find it massages in really nicely this way. It’s important to remember that this is technically a primer, not a foundation, so the texture is quite different to that of a foundation. If you choose to apply with a brush, you’ll probably find that the brush absorbs a lot of the product, and the finish won’t be as smooth.
Donning a no makeup look doesn’t mean you have to go concealer-free. I don’t know about you, but I genuinely don’t feel ready until I’ve got my concealer on. I use my concealer to brighten up my eyes and illuminate my skin, and this one is great because you only need a tiny little bit. If you have any blemishes, apply your concealer as normal, and to create a nice glow, pop some under your eyes, too. Concealer helps create the illusion of a flawless, radiant and youthful complexion, which is why it’s such a key component in creating this look.
For me, no makeup look is complete without my trusty bottle of NARS Laguna! My mum bought me this back in January, and I’m still using the same bottle, which is really impressive considering I use it every day!
When it comes to using this product as part of the no makeup look, I pump a small amount of product onto the ball of my hand, before using my fingertips to pat the liquid onto my skin. Massaging gently onto the areas I’d like to tan (cheeks, forehead, chin & nose) i then take my Real Techniques Buffing Blush to seamlessly blend the product out. The trick is not to use too much - you can always add a little more later, but taking it off isn’t as easy, plus it’s wasteful.
This product does exactly what it says on the tin, and it’s literally the only brow product I ever use. I don’t like the overly drawn on look, and the no makeup look obviously isn’t about that either. So, to enhance the look of your brows, opt for this little baby instead! Designed to emphasise your natural brows, this product coats each and every hair, lightly thickening the hairs to create a fuller looking brow. I couldn’t be without it - it’s fab.
I won’t go on and on about this product, because I am aware that I do tend to sing it’s praises waaaay too much sometimes! It really is great though...
Anyway, when using this mascara for my no makeup look, I apply as normal, but instead of curling my lashes, I leave them with their natural curve and that’s it. If you’ve got quite flat lashes with no curve, you may still wish to use your lash curlers. For a fresh faced look, refrain from applying too many coats of mascara. This one is fantastic, so you shouldn’t need too much anyway.
And finally, to finish everything off, one of my favourite ever lipstick shades - MAC Modesty. Simply pat the stick onto your lips for a fuller-looking, but natural coloured pout. Gorgeous!
I really hope you enjoyed this blog post & I can’t wait to share more with you soon!
Lots of love,
Grace x
