Nothing makes me feel more confident than when my skin is glowing (oh, and having a gorgeous tan, too!) and so I rely a lot on my skincare products to make my complexion look great. For more advice on how to make your skin glow, check out my post 'How To Make Your Skin Look Younger' - there are tons of great tips here!
I’m very specific about the products I use and although I love trying out new things, I approach anything I apply to my skin with caution. The likes of dryness, breakouts and adverse reactions are all things that I would prefer to steer clear of. So, in general, I’d say I rely on a selection of brands to give me that glow, without the risk of reaction.
Having all the skin products in the world is just the half of it, though. A lot of the end result is about how you apply those products.
Ultimately, if you’re washing your face and only spending 10 seconds doing so, then your results probably aren’t going to match those of someone who has spent a good 2 minutes massaging everything in and paying close attention to the areas that need a little more work.
Of course, this is something that a lot of people don’t realise.
To clear things up, a quick sweep over the face with a makeup wipe - even an expensive brand of wipes - will never be enough. Your skin needs to be really well looked after to keep it in great condition. So, for this blog post, I thought I’d share with you my top tips on how to make the most of your skincare products. Teaching you simple methods on how to optimise your regime without spending a penny more, I’m going to provide 5 simple pointers that will change your skin - and maybe even your life.
So, without any further ado, let’s get to it...
1. Be Gentle With Your Scrub & Massage In Circular Motions
I read an article some time ago about how Kendall Jenner’s dermatologist never allows her to use a scrub. And while I have absolutely no doubt that KJ’s skincare expert knows a thing or two, this is something that really did leave me flummoxed.
To me, Scrub is such an important part of my skincare regime and something that, if I didn’t do it, I would really notice a huge difference.
The only issue with scrub is that many people are too rough with it, and rather than massaging in circular motions, they just move their hands in a very rigid ‘up and down’ motion.
If you’re wondering why your scrub isn’t doing a great job, despite paying good money to get a decent one, then it’s likely you’re applying it wrong.
For optimum results, apply the scrub in circular motions and once you’ve gone over the entirety of your face, rather than rinsing immediately, leave the scrub on your face for 3-5 minutes.
Many exfoliating products contain skin-loving acids (hyaluronic and salicylic to name just a couple) and by allowing these ingredients to really sink into the skin, your complexion will begin to reap tons more benefits.
My favourite exfoliator right now is definitely the No7 Microdermabrasion Exfoliator. You can read more about this product in my post 'Getting Perfect Skin With The No7 Microdermabrasion Exfoliator.'

2. Leave Your Face Wash On For Longer
I used to be one of those people that would always be in a hurry to wash my face. I don’t know about you, but I hate the feeling of water dripping down my forearms when I’m washing my face, so i always preferred to get things done quickly.
Now though, I spend much more time massaging the product into my skin, and then, as I do with my scrub, I allow the wash to sit on my skin for a few minutes before I rinse away.
What this does is give the pores a really deep, intense clean and help draw out any grime or impurities that may otherwise have been missed.
This method helps give my skin that really squeaky clean feeling, and my pores are always left so much more refined. I love it.
If you're on the lookout for a new face wash, I highly recommend the Kiehl's Calendula Foaming Face Wash. Alternatively, if you're on a smaller budget, the Garnier SkinActive Naturals Range is amazing (I love the Green Tea Gel Wash!)

3. Tone Your Neck As Well As Your Face
Toner is one of those things that I simply couldn’t be without. I love how my skin looks and feels after using toner and if I were to ever have a night off from it, I just know I’d definitely be able to tell the difference.
Nowadays, with so much more information readily available about skincare, I think the majority of women in particular use toner. However, while toning the face is pretty obvious, I think may people forget to tone their neck, too.
Just like the face, the neck is prone to signs of aging, acne, pimples (you name it), so be sure that next time you tone, you pay attention to your neck, too. During the summer months, I even sweep a cotton pad over my décolletage - it feels lovely & it presents any pesky pimples caused by excessive sweating and heat (gross, but true!)
If you're running low on toner, be sure to give the Pixi Glow Tonic a try. There's a reason this product has become a beauty cult classic - it's amazing. Plus, it's a toner & exfoliator in one!
4. Pat On Your Eye Cream - Don't Rub!
Eye cream is one of those things that, for some reason, it took me absolutely ages to get on board with. I suppose for such a long time, I just assumed that because I'm still young, eye cream wasn't exactly necessary. However, since learning that everybody should begin to use anti-ageing eye cream in their very early twenties, I now use it everyday.
If you still haven't started using eye cream and you want to keep those wrinkles and creases at bay, then now's the time to make an investment. And when it comes to applying your eye cream, listen very carefully...
Do not rub!
Instead of rubbing in your eye cream, pat it in instead. Patting is so much more effective. You're much less likely to waste any product (if you're rubbing aggressively, it's likely that half the cream will be absorbed by your fingertips!) Plus, if you're rubbing, you are dragging the skin in different directions and, ultimately, undoing the work of the eye cream. Not good!
5. Leave Your Sheet Mask On As Long As Possible
Well, not for days, obviously. But, if the sheet mask suggests 15-30 minutes, always go for 30. I am absolutely loving sheet masks at the moment, and I find that keeping the mask on for longer, my skin looks so much more radiant for it.
The great thing about sheet masks is that they help moisturise the skin, and rather than stripping the skin of natural oils, they help rejuvenate the complexion and give everything a really youthful glow.
