When it comes to the world of beauty, there are few things more frustrating than waking up and realising that you are having a bad skin day. Whether you’re suffering from dark, under-eye circles, redness or you’ve woken up to a cluster of hormonal spots, bad skin days are, well, bad.
But, the important thing to remember is that everybody has them. In that moment, you may feel as though nobody has ever had it worse than you, but honestly, what you’re experiencing is completely normal and the best thing you can is to not stress.
Of course, that’s much easier said than done. So, in this blog post, I’m going to share with you my top tips and suggestions for things you can do when complexion perfection feels like a light-year away.
With my help, you can get your skin looking fabulous, bright, fresh and youthful in no time at all (be sure to check out my post 'How To Wake Up Looking Flawless'.
1. Drink Lots Of Water
The key to perfect-looking skin is actually a lot simpler than you may think, and while I do absolutely love all my fancy skincare goodies, there are so many simple but effective changes you can make to improve your complexion.
Woken up looking less than fresh? Don’t sweat it. Instead, make yourself a large cup of green tea and drink lots and lots of water throughout the day. In doing this, you’ll flush out any toxins likely to cause you to break out or full your complexion. The water will detox your system and give you the glow up you’re in need of.
2. Go Makeup Free
A bad skin day calls for a little more makeup than usual, right?
Wrong.
In fact, quite the opposite.
If you’ve woken up and your skin appears to be in a bad mood with you, do what you’d do if your brother, sister or best friend was in a mood - give it some space.
And by that, I mean steer clear of ANY cosmetics for the WHOLE day.
If the idea of going completely makeup free seems almost impossible - you’ve got a big meeting at work or a date night in the diary - go a little lighter than you would usually. Conceal the areas of concern, but try not to mask your skin. By covering up your skin with heavy foundations and the like, you’ll only make matters worse.
3. Get Munching On Fruit And Veggies
Comfort foods like chocolate and pizza might cheer you up temporarily, but when your skin is crying out for attention, junk food is the last thing you should be eating.
So, rather than filling up your body with grease, fat and sugar, stock up the fruit bowl and fuel your system with skin-loving vitamins and minerals.
Broccoli, spinach, peaches, blueberries and tomatoes are just a small handful of fruits and veggies that’ll help return your skin to normal and give it a boost of radiance.
4. Cleanse, Tone & Moisturise
As well as feeding your skin from the inside, you should remember to give your skin a refresh from the outside, too.
Harsh scrubs aren’t the way to go on a bad skin day as there’s a risk you’ll aggravate the situation. However, a simple cleanse, tone and moisturise routine will work wonders, helping to brighten and rejuvenate your complexion.

5. Get Plenty Of Rest
I don’t know about you, but I always find my skin looks it’s best after I’ve had a good long sleep. Ever heard of the term ‘beauty sleep’? I’m sure you have, but if you haven’t, take it from me, an extra couple of hours spent catching z’s will allow time for your skin to regenerate and refresh.
Our skin heals whilst we sleep, and so the more sleep you get, the clearer and more radiant that complexion will look!
I really hope you enjoyed this post & I can’t wait to share more with you soon.
Lots of love,
Grace x
