With that said, if you ever found yourself (or still are finding yourself for that matter) refusing to take your makeup off before bed because you’re scared of him seeing you without it, or you’re re-enacting Annie’s famous scene in bridesmaids where she tip-toes our of bed to apply her makeup long before her man wakes up, then this blog post is a must read.
So, please carry on reading!
I, like so many of you, have totally been in this situation. I think because the majority of us meet our other halves when we’re out and about and we obviously have our makeup on, the idea of them seeing us with no bronzer, no foundation and no mascara is really scary.
Essentially, in removing our makeup, many of us are removing our comfort blanket and what makes us feel most confident, and so to take that away is actually a pretty big deal. But it doesn’t have to be.
Imagine if you could wake up with flawless skin without makeup? And go to sleep with flawless skin, again, without makeup? (Don't forget to check out my 'How To Create The No Makeup Look' blog post for natural-looking glam inspo!)

How great would it be to hear that alarm clock and know you're waking up with flawless skin?! |
I think at some point we’ve all uttered the words ‘I wish I could be one of those girls that just wakes up, throws her hair into a bobble and still looks a 10/10’, so, in this blog post, I’m going to try and help you get that flawless natural look so you can feel confident enough to go makeup-free.
At this point, I’d just like to note that our imperfections are of course nothing to be ashamed of and if your other half in any way makes you feel uncomfortable about the way you look without your warpaint, run a mile - he is not the one! This post is more about you having the confidence to embrace your bare face and love the skin your in, so hopefully it helps!
Okay, so I’m going to share with you a list of pointers that you must follow in order to get that flawlessly filtered looking skin that’s going to make everybody green with envy. There are no gimmicks here - just straightforward advice that’s always going to serve you and your complexion well.
1. Always Remove Your Makeup Before Bed
Okay, this seems ridiculous to even mention given the nature of the blog post but it’s so so so true! Take it from me, one of the worst things you can ever do to your skin is mask it in makeup overnight. Your pores will almost certainly clog and the texture of your skin will become bumpy and rough. If you’re genuinely feeling uncomfortable about your skin and you’ve been planning on having a sleepover at your new partner’s place, just put it off a little while longer until you feel happier with your complexion?
Alternatively, why not invest in an overnight sheet mask that you can wear whilst you stay over? Sure, they look a little scary but you'll actually wake up with even better skin and let's face it, if he's a keeper, he's going to have to accept that he's got all this fun stuff coming his way sooner or later, anyway!

2. Invest In An Overnight Skin Recovery Oil
I swear by facial oils. In fact, I prefer them to moisturisers massively and for anyone really wanting to replenish and repair their skin, I would 100% point them in the direction of a nighttime oil.
In my opinion, the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concetrate is completely second to none on this front. Sure, there are cheaper alternatives out there, but this stuff lasts for absolutely ages and a little really does go a long way.
Other great skin oils that I strongly recommend are the Bobbi Brown Skin Clarifier, The Elemis Superfood Facial Oil and the Eve Lom Radiance Face Oil. They're all amazing & really will work wonders on your skin!
3. Drink A Mug Of Green Tea Before Bed
Okay, so I know that technically, there's a rule with caffeine and drinking anything caffeinated before bed, but if you ask me, having a mug of green tea half an hour before hitting the hay is somewhat different to necking an espresso shot at 11pm. And you know what? That simple mug of green goodness promises to clear out your system overnight and leave your complexion looking fabulous.
If you're not a huge fan of green tea and you're put off by the bitterness associated with this hot beverage, opt for a flavoured version. I absolutely love the Salted Caramel Green Tea's from Twinings - the Gingerbread version is perfect for Christmas time, too!

4. Don't Forget To Tone
If you don't use tone en it's about time you did. Toner plays such a crucial part in all of our skincare regimes and while some people fear it will make their skin dry of flaky, particularly in the winter months, this actually isn't the case at all. Well, not if you do your research, anyway.
Toners with a high alcohol content or that have been specially designed to dry out oily or acne prone skin will of course have a drying effect. However, if you know that you're prone to dry patches, simply opt for something with good moisturising qualities. In my opinion, the Liz Earle Instant Boost Tonic is great for this, as is the Elemis Rehydrating Ginseng Toner, which comes in a really handy spray bottle - perfect for spritzing on the go!
5. Use Intensive Overnight Masks
While you don't need to use this type of product everyday, they're perfect for giving your skin a new lease of life and promise to keep your skin looking and feeling great - all you need to do is apply and enjoy a great night's sleep!
If you aren't sure which mask to get, I'd recommend any of the following:
