WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'VE GOT BLOGGER'S BLOCK.

I love writing. In fact, I love writing so much that not only do I do it on my blog, I also do it as a full-time job, too. Writing is a huge part of my life and I love the power that writing gives me. When I write, I'm free to share all my favourite things, as well as all my thoughts, views, hints, tips & advice. It's great, and honestly, I can't imagine myself doing anything different at this point. However, as writing does take up such a huge chunk of my time, I do find that occasionally, a little case of writer's block is, unfortunately, completely unavoidable.

Any other blogger or writer will hopefully be able to empathise with me when I say that there's nothing more frustrating than when the words just won't come to you. As I've been doing this now for such a long time, generally speaking, the words and phrases seem to roll off the tongue effortlessly. It's almost as if I have a mental word bank that's growing constantly. Sometimes, though, the word bank does a runner and I'm left, well, completely clueless.

When planning this blog post, I thought I'd do a little research into what other bloggers and columnists had shared on this topic, and as expected, there are already tons of different articles and posts out there for people to read. And I have to say, I found some of them really useful, actually, but of course, I want to give you lovely lot the very best (and most honest) advice on how to battle blogger's block.

So, let's get to it. Here are my top tips...

My Top Tips On How To Battle Blogger's Block

1. Do a Bit Of Reading

When I’m struggling to find the words and what I’m trying to say isn’t sounding quite as nice as I’d like it to, I find that reading always really helps me.

There are tons of amazing articles out there on the web that are super useful for getting back into the swing of things - but for me, sometimes picking up a magazine and taking a break from my phone or laptop for a little while is really beneficial. The likes of Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle are always crammed with great articles & the writers are just so good!

2. Look Around You

Okay, so at a first glance this probably sounds a little cryptic and whimsical, but actually, as writers we are all heavily inspired by the things that surround us and of course the things that go on around us.

Depending on your niche and the type of blogging that you do, you can find inspiration in a whole host of different places. For me, just dipping into my makeup bag or scanning through my bathroom cupboard and wardrobe is a great place to start. Also, I find that researching the latest fashion & beauty trends is very useful, too.

3. Scan Through Posts You've Written Previously

This is actually a really, really useful tip, and there are a number of different reasons for this.

First of all, if like me you’ve been blogging for quite a while, it’s likely that you’ll have forgotten about certain topics you’ve covered in the past - but actually, by pulling those posts back up, you can look at ways not only to improve & update them, but consider other related subjects that your readers might love, too.

I did a post about choosing foundations a little while ago, so now I’ve decided to start planning a string of other posts that I can connect with this. For example, the best foundations for dewy skin & for matte skin, foundations that won’t clog the pores, moisturising foundations, luxury foundation dupes & so on.

4. Have a Coffee

Okay, so I know that caffeine is something we should all probably think about cutting down on, but sometimes, a delicious hot coffee is just what’s needed to get the brain back in gear.

I recently talked about the return of pumpkin spiced lattes in my 'What I Love About Autumn' blog post, and I have to say, I’m still absolutely loving those. If, however, you’re looking for a caffeine-free alternative that’s just as tasty, try a chai latte instead. Trust me, they are so good.

5. Empty Out Your Handbag

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love reading the ‘what’s in my handbag’ blog posts. In fact, no matter how many I read, I just never seem to get bored. I think it’s something to do with how insightful handbags can be and how different we all are in terms of what we consider ‘everyday essentials’.

Personally, my handbag always has a collection of cosmetics stuffed into it, as well as a hair brush, notepad, pen and a few other bits & bobs, but others wouldn’t even think to put those things inside. I find it so interesting!

To round this blog post up, I’d just like to reinforce the fact that writers block is completely normal and you really shouldn’t beat yourself up about it. Being a writer or a blogger requires a heck of a lot of brain power and sometimes, we just need to give our minds and bodies a proper rest to refresh ourselves!

I really hope you all enjoyed this post & I can’t wait to share more with you soon.

Lots of love,
Grace x
