1. It’s Christmas tomorrow! (Yay!)
2. It’s Boxing Day in two days.
As a child, I always remember feeling half sad and half happy on Boxing Day. Half happy because I’d have a full day to play with all my new toys and it was another opportunity to spend time with family. But half sad because of course, I knew that Christmas was over for another year.
Back then, I had absolutely no idea about the Boxing Day Sales. Now though, I’m more than aware of the madness that unravels on the night street on 26th December.
The Boxing Day sales are, for some people, a bigger deal than Christmas Day itself. Why? Because the deals and discounts to be bagged are in some cases, absolutely phenomenal. Money Saving Expert shared an article the other day 'Boxing Day Sales 2018' - be sure to take a look for some of the best deals out there this year!
If you can get yourself past that initial fury at the fact the perfume gift set you bought for your mum is now 50% off and that gorgeous pair of boots are now reduced by £30, then you may just be in for a treat...
But, of course, as with most things in life, there’s a wise way to sale shop, and a ‘not so wise’ way to do it.
So, for this blog post, I thought I’d share with you my top tips on how to sale shop in style. With everything from how to bag the best bargains to information on where to head for the biggest & best discounts, it’s all right here. Enjoy!
My Top Tips On How To Sale Shop In Style
1. Go Online First
As someone who, in the past, has braved the Boxing Day sales, I’d first and foremost urge you all to try your hand at online sales shopping first.
There are many benefits to sale shopping online. To start with, you won’t have to fight anyone for the last glittery jumper in Topshop and you certainly aren’t going to find yourself under a pile of bras and knickers in Boux Avenue. But on top of all that, online sales shopping is, for the most part at least, completely stress free.
And, as many retailers now begin their sales on Christmas Eve (sometimes even earlier than that!) you can actually pick up all the best buys before anybody else! Winner!
2. Head Out Early
If, however, you prefer to physically examine your stuff before you buy it (which I completely get, by the way) & you therefore feel compelled to bag those bargains in person, I’d suggest heading out as early as possible.
Boxing Day, albeit a slightly less busy day than it used to be, is renowned for being well, a little bit wild. So, if you can get down there early and beat the mad rush, then you’ll be helping yourself out - a lot.
Places like Topshop, Zara & River Island with particularly big followings tend to get busy before anywhere else, so if you’re a fan of these high street retailers, I’d suggest heading there first.
3. Make A List Of What You Want To Buy
Whether you’re shopping online or in store, one of my biggest top tips would be to first make a list of exactly what you want to buy.
Big ‘money off’ signs written in bold, red writing have a clever way of reeling us all straight in, but don’t buy the first thing you see just because it’s cheap! Instead, head to the section of the website/page in which you’ll find what you’re looking for.
At the moment, my Boxing Day list consists of: ripped jeans, a baby pink sweater, some new boots & new lingerie. I’ve tried to keep it fairly low-key this year, and I’m determined not to be tempted by anything else.
4. Pay Close Attention To Luxury Retailers
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a soft spot for a little luxury, but like most people, I have lots of other things to buy in life, so I can’t always afford to pay for designer coats, shoes and everything else.
However, when these items are discounted, I’m more likely to treat myself.
If like me, you’re a fan of labels but you don’t want to blow your cash, i’d recommend checking out the sales of more luxury brands both on and before Boxing Day. Lavish and luxury retailers have become renowned for their astonishing deals & discounts, so rather than looking for the cheapest thing first, turn your attention to quality & think about the things that you wouldn’t buy from day-to-day.
I find that brands such as Ralph Lauren, DKNY and Karen Millen - to name just a few of my favourite high end retailers - do some fabulous price cuts on Boxing Day.
5. Don’t Buy For The Sake Of It
And finally, to finish this list off is a point that I honestly can’t stress enough...
Don’t buy for the sake of it!
If you genuinely feel like you already have everything you truly need & want right now, hold onto your purse and refrain from whipping that debit card out.
At the end of the day, you’ve only saved money if you’ve bought something that you genuinely already wanted/ would have wanted when it was full price. So, before you jump straight in, ask yourself ‘would I have paid full price for this? Or am I just getting it because it’s affordable?’ And then make your decision!
I really really hope you all enjoyed this blog post & I hope you’re having the most wonderful Christmas Eve!
Until next time lovelies!
Lots of love,
Grace x
