I’m absolutely obsessed with interior design. I love how diverse our tastes are when it comes to interiors and I think it’s great that we can use our homes to really reflect and showcase our personalities.
For me, a blend of classic and contemporary is key. I like things to look shiny and new, but equally, I think it’s important that a home feels lived in and loved - which is why those all-important finishing touches are so essential. The likes of cushions, throws, candles and beautiful wall art pieces work together to really bring a living space to life. And as cliche as it may sound, these are the things that really make a house a home.

Which is what we’re all aiming for - to make our house feel warm and inviting. Home should be somewhere that we look forward to returning to - a cosy retreat at the end of a busy day, a snug setting in which to wind down after a wet and windy dog walk. Home should feel like the safest and most special place in the entire world. And hopefully, with a few tips and tricks from me, you’ll be able to fall in love with your home all over again.
In this blog post, I’m going to be sharing my top tips for making your home more beautiful. From must-follow Pinterest and Instagram accounts to the best places to buy furniture and home accessories - plus loads of other great tips! - you’ll find everything you need to know right here. So, without any further ado, let’s get to it...
1. Invest In Some Good Quality Oak Furniture
Oak furniture is my absolute favourite. We bought a beautiful collection of oak furniture pieces from Arighi Bianchi before moving into our first home - and it’s all coming with us to our new home, too. We are still just as in love with our wooden furniture as we were when we first bought it, and I think that’s the beauty of oak - it really is completely timeless.
If you’re looking for ways to warm up your home or ways to make your home more cosy, then why not consider a lovely new oak table, some oak doors or an oak sideboard? I promise you won’t regret it.
2. Say ‘Yes’ To Candles - Candles Are Key
Oh it’s absolutely no secret at all that I love a candle! I’m a particularly huge fan of scented candles as they’re great for diffusing food odours and making everything smell beautiful. Some of my favourite candle brands include Woodwick Candle, Yankee Candle and Katie Loxton. The Katie Loxton candles are particularly chic, and also double up as gorgeous gifts for loved ones.

3. Inject A Touch Of Colour
It seems as though neutral hues have been dominating the interior design world since... well, forever! Greys, nudes, pale browns and beiges are safe bets - and work as great base colours for your home. However, if you want to elevate that feeling of warmth and cosiness, it’s important to get creative with your colour scheme. Statement shades like magenta, plum, turquoise, emerald green and navy will instantly bring your living space to life, all whilst making for a home that’s fresh, fun and inviting.
4. Take A Break From Grey
Grey is good, absolutely, but not everything in our homes needs to be grey - and it seems as though this interior design fail is one that many of us have fallen victim to in recent years. We’ve all gone completely giddy for grey, and it was fun while it lasted! But now, it’s time to break things up a little and experiment with shades other than slate, stone and concrete.
5. Stock Up On Cushion Covers
If we continued to buy new cushions all the time, then our houses would soon become packed out with them. As a space-saving alternative, stock up on cushion covers instead. Places like Dunelm, Wayfair and Housing Units are a few of my favourites to shop from.
6. Mirrors Are A Must
Wall mirrors are perhaps one of the greatest interior design hacks ever. They’re just amazing. Whether you’re looking to create the illusion of a larger space, or you’re simply looking for ways to breathe light and life into your home, a shiny new mirror is bound to do the trick.
Rectangle mirrors placed in portrait orientation are great for creating the illusion of taller ceilings, meanwhile a landscape placing will enhance the width of the room.

7. Use Pinterest To Create Interior Design Vision Boards
When searching for new interior design ideas, Pinterest is always my first point of call - it’s literally a treasure trove for fresh home inspiration!
I have a collection of Pinterest boards - one for every room in our house, as a matter of fact - and I’m constantly adding to them. If your home is in need of a new-season spruce-up, why not do the same?
8. Liven Things Up With Fresh Flowers & Plants
There’s nothing more beautiful than a fresh bunch of flowers, and some gorgeous new blooms will inject colour and life into your home effortlessly.
I love taking regular trips to my local Newbank Garden Centre in Dobcross for plants and flowers (they do some beautiful artificial flowers, as well as real ones!) But I also find that the flowers in supermarkets are great, too!
If you like a more bespoke look or you’re after something a little more luxurious, there are some fabulous online flower delivery services available to try. The likes of Interflora, Bloom & Wild and Prestige Flowers are just a few of the online stores worth checking out.

9. Get Creative With Your Storage Solutions
I don’t know about you, but I hate clutter. Having things on display is fine - ornaments and decorative accessories are great, but when things are left on show unnecessarily, it drives me a teeny bit mad.
The trouble is, of course, that this means more storage is necessary - which isn’t always easy, particularly if you have a smaller house....
I’d all your wardrobes, drawers and cupboards are already full, then it’s time to get creative with your storage solutions. Canvas buckets, wicker baskets and wooden trunks are all great for stowing away those bits & pieces that would otherwise be left on display, meanwhile The Holding Company and The Basket Company are two must-shops.
10. Everyone Knows It’s All About Throws!
Checked throws, fluffy throws, woolly throws - whatever your preference, one thing’s for sure - we all need a throw or three in our lives!
Throws are great for updating rooms without spending a small fortune as they allow us to customise our living spaces instantly. During the summer months, a lovely lilac throw will keep your bedroom looking fresh and fabulous, meanwhile during the winter season, a plush tartan throw can be counted on to cosy things up. In need of storage ideas? Why not roll your throws up and stand them up in a round woven wicker basket?
