MY EVENING SKINCARE ROUTINE.

For me, my evening skincare routine is so much more than just a means of freshening up and taking off my makeup - it’s actually therapeutic. I value and relish that 20-minute time slot each and every day as it’s the bit of me-time that I need to really unwind and recuperate. If I’m feeling stressed or anxious, I’ll indulge in an extra 5 minutes or so just to properly work the skincare products into my pores. On the same note, if my complexion is looking dull or tired , I’ll allocate extra exfoliation time - because let’s face it, nothing gives a glow up quite like a good old face scrub.

Our evening skincare routines really are so important, as our skin cells renew and repair most effectively whilst we sleep - hence the term ‘beauty sleep.’ Yep, that’s not just a cute little phrase - there’s actually a lot of truth in it! So, if you are having a bad skin day, hit the hay a little earlier than you usually would. It really will help!

And if you really want to optimise that extra 60-minutes shut eye, then be sure to show your skin some love before you get into bed.

You deserve to look and feel great, so for this blog post, I thought I’d share my full night time skincare routine with you. Like I said earlier, my evening skincare ritual is one of the most important parts of my day, so I really hope that you find this useful and that you too can benefit from all of these lovely products. I hope you enjoy!

1. Step 1 - Cleanse

Okay, so step one of my skincare routine is to cleanse using micellar water. The one I’m currently using is the Garnier Micellar Water Oil Infused Facial Cleanser. I really love this product as it’s so easy to use and the results are quick. The solution effortlessly dissolves makeup, melting away every last trace of foundation, mascara, blusher - you name it. It’s also really nourishing and doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry or right, which is something I have found with other makeup removing products in the past.

2. Step 2 - Cleanse again

Double cleansing is absolutely essential, so if you haven’t already, then now is the perfect time to adopt this cleansing ritual.

The second part of my cleansing routine is to use a gel or a cream wash and massage over the entirety of the face. I’ve used lots and lots of great face cleansers over the years - some expensive, some more adorable - but at the moment I am just loving the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. I’d heard so much about this product previous to buying it, and at such an affordable cost, I just had to give it a try.

To really make the most of this part of my evening skincare regime, I leave my face wash sat on the surface of my skin for 2-3 minutes after I’ve worked it into my pores. This allows the product to really penetrate the pores and work its magic.

3. Step 3 - Exfoliate

I don’t exfoliate every single night, but I do exfoliate regularly just to keep my skin looking super smooth and polished.

The face scrub that I’m currently using and absolutely loving is the L’Oreal Smooth Sugars Nourish Scrub. As well as boasting an appealing price point and smelling absolutely divine, this facial exfoliator also offers a range of complexion-perfecting properties.

The innovative nourishing formula ensures that the skin stays supple and moisturised whilst sloughing away those dead skin cells. So, instead of feeling dry and tight afterwards, the skin looks and feels radiant and youthful. Bliss.

4. Step 4 - Tone

It still amazes me (not I’m a good way) how many people don’t tone their skin. Some skincare products are a little gimmicky and not altogether necessary, so to speak, but toner really isn’t one of them. So if your wash bag is still lacking a bottle of toner, then I urge you to invest.

The toner that I’m currently using and highly recommend is the Revolution Skincare Glycolic Toner. And to use, I simply apply a small amount of product to a cotton pad and sweep over my face.

One of the most common mistakes people make when applying their toner is feeling like they need to rub it into the skin to make it work - but this absolutely isn’t the case at all. If you buy a decent toner with quality ingredients, a soft sweeping motion will be enough to get the solution working.

5. Step 5 - Hyaluronic Acid

I think it’s important to be gentle with our skin and to not apply anything to astringent or aggressive, which is why, in the past, acid skincare products have scared me a little. But now that I’ve done my research and have since bought multiple skincare products with acid in them, I have to say, I’m completely converted.

One of my favourite acids, which is great for plumping up the skin and helping it to retain that youthful texture and flow, is hyaluronic acid - which can be found in a selection of different skincare products.

The product I’m using right now is the Revolution Skincare Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which is super easy to apply and comes at a price point to suit every pocket. Highly recommend.

6. Step 6 - Serum

The next step of my evening skincare routine is Serum. I haven’t always used serums - in fact, this is a completely new step for me, but I have to say, this is 100% a worthwhile addition to my regime.

My mum bought me a tube of The Inkey List Vitamin C Serum after being so impressed with it herself, and I’m just obsessed. This product absorbs into the skin instantly, magically erasing pores and leaving the complexion looking seamlessly smooth and glowy. Upon application, it tingles - but only a little - but I love this, as to me, a little tingle is an indicator that the product is ‘doing something.’

This new addition to my routine is definitely wet my appetite to try more products from The Inkey List. Please do let me know in the comments section below if you’ve tried this brand and which products you recommend.

7. Step 7 - Overnight Mask

Moving onto step 7 (I know, I don’t do things by halves), it’s time to talk about overnight treatment masks.

Expertly developed to revive and rejuvenate the skin whilst we catch those z’s, overnight skin masks promise to deeply nourish the skin and reinject moisture into the complexion for a more radiant and healthy flow.

I love moisture masks, and would urge anybody looking to enhance their skincare routine to invest in one. I love the Nivea Q10 Sleeping Melt-In Mask - it lasts for ages and it’s so effective.

8. Step 8 - Intensive Moisturiser

From one skin-repairing product to another, the next part of my routine is to apply a super intensive moisturiser, and for me, nothing quite compares with the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream.

With a balm-like consistency and innumerable skin-loving properties and perks, this product is one that every woman should own. You can read my full Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Review here.

9. Step 9 - Tan

And finally, its time to tan.

I don’t actually apply tan every day - In fact, probably just once or twice a week, if that. However, in the interest of giving you all a full round-up of my evening routine, I thought I better give this step a mention and tell you all what I use to get that natural-looking, sun-kissed glow that I so desperately love.

To give a little bit of background on this, I actually stopped using facial tanners altogether after finding that my skin was reacting badly to the ingredients in the products I was using. However, having now discovered the incredible St Tropez Water Purity Mist, I am officially back on the hype and my skin has never looked so healthy!

To find out more about this sensational product, which I can say with absolute confidence is the best fake tan for face I have ever used, make sure you have a read of my post: St Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist Review.

And there you have it - my full, 9 step evening skincare routine in all its glory!

I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post and that I’ve helped inspire you to enhance your own routine.

Until next time, lovelies!

Lots of love,
Grace x
