HOW TO STOP FAKE TAN GOING PATCHY: 4 TOP TIPS THAT WILL ENSURE YOUR TAN WEARS OFF EVENLY.

It’s no secret that I’m a little bit of a fake tan addict. Okay, a lot of a fake tan addict. I’ve been using fake tan for such a long time now, and whilst I’ll never quite stop cringing and hanging my head in shame about my orange days (which I’ll admit lasted way too long), I‘ve since learned how to make fake tan look natural and how to stop fake tan going patchy.

Which is what I’m going to talk to you about in this blog post.

The problem with fake tan is that it is exactly what it says on the tan - it’s fake. And for this reason, unless you apply correctly and prep your skin properly beforehand, it will look like it came out of a bottle - which you know it did, but nobody else needs to know!

So, how do you stop fake tan going patchy? How do you make fake tan look natural from the get-go? And how do you stop fake tan coming off in patches? There’s an art to it, that’s for sure. But once you’re in the know, you’ll have a golden permatan that will leave others green with envy.

So, here’s how to get it right & how to stop fake tan fading patchy...

1. Prepare your skin properly before applying any tan

The number one golden rule with fake tan is to NEVER apply fake tan on top of old fake tan. This is just a huge no-no and pretty much the Ultimate recipe for disaster.

It’s absolutely imperative that your skin is properly prepared before any tan makes contact with your body. That means exfoliating from top to toe, moisturising (particularly those dry, harder areas such as elbows, knees and ankles) and finally, ensuring that everywhere is completely dry before applying the tan itself. I find that leaving the skin overnight makes for the best results, but a few hours is usually fine too.

2. Don’t apply too much tan

If you layer up too much tan on your skin then it will likely build up - especially on those dry areas - and the excess product will quickly wear off in patches. Instead of layering up your tan, try to choose a tan that suits your skin tone. I always buy the St Tropez Classic Bronzing Mousse but you can buy a dark version if you like a more intense tan (this one is called the St Tropez Extra Dark Mousse)

Also, for those who - like myself - love to try something new, be sure to check out one of the most recent additions to the St Tropez family: the St Tropez Whipped Marshmallow Bronzing Mousse. It smells gorgeous & the pretty pink packaging is perfect for the 'gram.

3. Lightly exfoliate every day

This is key to the success of your tan and avoiding that horrible patchy look. A very light exfoliation every day is absolutely essential.

I tend to massage my whole body with a Greek sponge every day whilst I’m in the shower and then when I remove my tan, I reach for my st tropez tan removal mitt. This mitt makes The skin super soft and erases every last trace of tan effortlessly. I love it.

4. Use an oil free moisturiser everyday

And finally, to avoid your tan wearing off in patches and looking unnatural, continue to use an oil-free moisturiser every day. I love the St Tropez Tan Enhancing Body Moisuriser. It’s light yet nourishing and the zero oil formula means that it doesn’t break up the tan in the way that other moisturisers do. Instead, it increases the longevity of your faux glow and ensures that the tan wears off evenly and not in patches.

I hope you all enjoyed this post & I can't wait to share more with you soon!

Lots of love,
Grace x
