HOW TO USE CONCEALER: 8 WAYS TO USE CONCEALER & LOOK GORGEOUS.

Whether you’re disguising those telling dark circles or masking that pesky pimple that’s decided to erupt (right before that important event, of course), concealer is without question your go-to makeup product.

Our makeup bags simply wouldn’t be complete without a trusty concealer or two to perfect our complexions (if you want to find out more about what concealer to buy, be sure to check out my blog post 'What Is The Best Concealer?'). It’s just such a handy product, and a real saviour on those super-tired, coffee-in-hand, head-in-the-other-hand mornings. Had one too many prosecco’s the night before? Concealer has got you covered. Found yourself scrolling through Instagram until daft o’clock for no apparent reason? Concealer to the rescue.

Whether you prefer to use liquid concealer, cream concealer, stick concealer or a mixture of all three, one thing’s for sure - this is a product with true potential. A lot of which you’ve probably never even explored before.

The thing is, concealer can be used in loads of different ways - covering up spots and reducing redness are just two of the more obvious uses.

But trust me, you haven’t even scratched the surface with this one.

So, for this blog post, i thought I’d share with you all the different ways to use concealer. It’s time to put your face makeup to better use and truly elevate your everyday makeup look and date night makeup look alike. I hope you enjoy!

I am loving the Max Factor Facefinity Concealer at the moment. I've got it in a couple of different shades - one for my under-eyes and one for everywhere else

  1. Hiding spots

Kicking things off with perhaps the most obvious use for concealer, this list wouldn’t be complete without this one. Concealer is an absolute must-have when a new zit rears its head. Depending on the quality of the concealer you’re using and the formula of the concealer, just a small dot of product should be enough to disguise any little blemishes.

  2. Brightening dark circles and eye bags

Whether you’ve been partying with the girls or up all night with your little bundle of joy, let’s face it, your eyes are the ultimate giveaway when you haven’t had enough sleep. The good news is that your concealer and beauty blender will team up joyously to fix the issue.

  3. Reducing redness and hyperpigmentation

At some point of another, most of us will experience skin redness. And whilst this skin complaint isn’t anything to worry about, it can knock our confidence, which is why it’s always good to keep concealer to hand to help mask the problem. My advice would be to not go overboard with product - keep things natural by using just a small amount and blending out carefully with either a soft makeup brush or makeup sponge.

I apply my concealer either using a brush or a makeup sponge.

  4. Priming the lips

Lipstick primer is nice, but arguably not completely necessary - not when you have concealer, anyway. To help improve the staying power of your lipstick and liner, brush the tiniest amount of concealer over your pout with a face makeup brush, really buffing it in for an even, all over coverage. This is a great trick that really works.

  5. Priming the eyes

And if you’re more of an eyes chick than a lipgirl, you’ll be glad to hear that this same trick works a treat on the eye area, too. Just follow the same instructions as above to help enhance the staying power of your eye makeup.

  6. Highlighting the skin

This trick is one of my favourites. By using a concealer 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone, you can highlight various areas of the face to help create the illusion of a brighter, more radiant-looking complexion. For this makeup hack, I focus on brightening under the eyes, either side of the nose and in between & above the eyebrows.

No woman's makeup bag is complete without a concealer.

  7. Contouring

Truthfully, I’m not really a fan of the super-chiselled, contoured look - but a little bit of contouring is good for defining our features, and concealer is a great product to use if you want to achieve this. By using a mixture of dark concealers and light concealers, you can sculpt the cheekbones, narrow and shorten the nose, plump up the lips and even shorten your chin. The possibilities are endless - but remember, less is more and if you pile on the products, your finished makeup look will be obvious and unnatural.

  8. Sculpting the brows

And finally, the last makeup trick with concealer on my list is sculpting the eyebrows. Concealer is great for helping to emphasise eyebrows - particularly after they’ve just been shaped or if they’re very dark. Just take a concealer that’s a couple of shades lighter than your skin and carefully outline the brows to help further define those wow-worthy brows. Gorgeous!  If you'd like to know more about how to make your eyebrows look amazing, check out my blog post 'How To Get Perfect Eyebrows.'

And that’s just about it! If you know of any more ways to use concealer, please do get in touch & ilk add them to my list!

Until next time lovelies!

Lots of love,
Grace x
