Having a gorgeous golden glow is something that instantly elevates my self-confidence. And despite having pretty much nowhere to go right now, I still like to ensure that I am regularly topping up my UV-free tan using my trusty bottle of St Tropez.
St Tropez is undoubtedly my favourite fake tan brand ever, but until recently, I’ve always stayed faithful to the St Tropez Classic Bronzing Mousse. This product - which is the best fake tan mousse on the market, I might add - will always have a place in my heart. But I have to say, since switching to the St Tropez Express Gel, it’s safe to say that my go-to old faithful has been knocked off the top spot and replaced by a trendy, turquoise-bottled, more moisturising younger model.
What initially pushed me to buy the St Tropez Self Tan Express Gel as opposed to my usual fake tan saviour was the fact that I wanted the opportunity to review something new. I hold all St Tropez tanning products in very high regard so I was already very confident that this fake tan gel wouldn’t disappoint - but I had absolutely no idea it would become my new faux glow fave.

Knowing where to start with this false tanning product and what makes it so marvellous is impossible. There are just so many things about this fast action fake tan that I love! But first and foremost, to really get that fake tan mitt going, let’s talk about the colour of the tan.
It’s no secret that fake tan has come a long, long way since the early days. In fact, I don’t believe I have actually rocked even the faintest tangerine tint since early 2014. Which is great! But of course, it has to be said that some fake tanning products pose a more natural-looking tan than others. And honestly, I think anybody would be seriously hard pushed to find a more authentic faux glow than this.
With a very subtle olive undertone, once developed (which only takes an hour, by the way!) , this false tanning gel boasts the most natural fake tan colour ever. So much so in fact that you could easily fool people into thinking you’ve been sunning it up in Dubai with the ex-Love Islanders (and pretty much every other reality TV star.) I’m not jealous, I’m not jealous, I’m not jealous.
Okay, I’m jealous.
But what those lucky influencers can’t take away from me is my enviable, skin-friendly perma-tan. Which, moving onto my next point, is also super moisturising.
Typically speaking, the term ‘fake tan’ and the word ‘moisturising’ don’t slot together in the same sentence. Quite the contrary, actually, as faux tanners are generally let down by the fact that they are very drying on the skin.
Not this one, though. The St Tropez Express Tan Gel is extra special indeed. Why? Because - yes, I’m going to say it - it actually moisturises the skin.
Expertly developed to nourish the skin all whilst giving us an all-over glow-up, this fake tan gel has been formulated with Hyaluronic acid to help ensure the skin stays super smooth, supple and hydrated. Which for me, is just amazing - especially since I suffer with stress-induced eczema.
Another of the very many things I adore about this fake tanner is the fact that upon application, it looks fabulous instantly. Yes, it does develop into an even nicer colour - but as a massive brucey-bonus it also looks great from the get-go. Other more affordable fake tan products I have used previously have seriously let me down in this regard as the indicator layer has been either very green, or just way too dark - but this is just perfect in every way. I love it.

Next up, let’s talk about how this fake tan fades - something that is of grave importance to both beginners and seasoned self tanners alike. So, does this St Tropez tan go patchy?
Can we have a quick drum roll please...
No. It absolutely doesn't.
Personally I have never experienced any issues with St Tropez tanning products when it comes to the tan fading in patches. But I have to say that of all the St Tropez fake tan products I have used, this definitely seems to wear off the most naturally. I think this could be due to the fact it contains Hyaluronic acid, which nourishes the skin (patchy fake tan is usually the sign of dehydrated skin that’s in serious need of a pick-me-up). But who knows? All o do know is that there’s absolutely no need for any painful scrubbing sessions in the shower with this tan - it wears off naturally all on it’s very own.
Having said that, I would still highly recommend investing in a St Tropez Tan Removal Mitt, if you haven’t already. These mitts slough away any old tan or tanning mistakes effortlessly, and they’re super affordable, too - which always helps. Check out my blog post 'How To Remove Fake Tan' for more top tips on how to fade fake tan evenly.
And finally, let’s touch on the packaging of this product.
A factor that’s more important to some than others, the aesthetics of the beauty products we use is something that can be either a deal-maker or a deal-breaker for certain shoppers. Hence why many beauty companies are now spending so much time designing the way their products look and feel.
The good news with this tan is that it’s very sleek. Exactly what we want when investing in a premium fake tan product.
The glossy cylindrical bottle boasts a beautiful, metallic turquoise exterior, complete with contrasting jet black branding. It’s super simple, but super chic. Another huge thumbs up for us all.
You can pick up a bottle or the St Tropez Express Gel for approximately £33 - and I strongly recommend that you do. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
I really hope you all enjoyed this post & I can't wait to share more with you all soon. In the meantime, be sure to have a read of some of my other fake tan blog posts for more fake tanning tips, tricks & more.
Until next time, lovelies!
Lots of love,
Grace x
