SUMMER SKINCARE TIPS: HOW TO GET PERFECTLY RADIANT SKIN THIS SUMMER.

Summer is fast approaching and as the days get longer and the nights her shorter, the sun is beginning to shine a heck of a lot more too.

And I think I speak for us all when I say I am totally here for it.

There’s something so refreshing about the arrival of warmer weather. It’s that long awaited freedom to finally go out without a coat. And if you’re anything like me, ordering your caramel latte iced, rather than hot.

I love summer. But like the rest of us, my skin on the other hand, does not.

I care deeply for my skin - how it looks and how it feels. Which is why I pay close attention to what it needs. And in summer especially, I am particularly attentive to my complexion. Because if there’s one thing that’s there to threaten the health of our skin, it’s that glorious sunshine we all love so much.

It’s no secret that the UV rays from the sun are seriously damaging for our skin.

But what can we do to prevent that damage?

What is the best SPF face cream?

And does SPF block pores?

There are so many questions and so much confusion when it comes to summer skincare. But don’t worry, I’m here with the answers.

For this blog post, I thought I’d share everything you need to know about summer skincare so that you can create the best summer skincare routine ever.

I really hope you all enjoy this post!

A few of the best summer skincare products that I love!

1. Wear SPF every day

One thing that many people don’t know is that SPF should be worn every day whether it’s sunny outside or not. So, in the summer months when it is hot & sunny, it’s extra important to stock up on moisturisers with SPF.

I am going to put together a full blog post all about moisturisers that contain SPF, so keep an eye out for that coming your way very soon. For now though, I would definitely recommend the CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion with SPF 25. I wear this every day and as well as protecting the skin from the sun, it’s also completely non comedogenic meaning you won’t break out. Winner, winner.

The CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion contains SPF 25 to help protect skin from the sun throughout the day

2. Apply an SPF lip balm

Staying on the subject of SPF, I thought I’d touch on lip balms with SPF , too. I love a good lip balm. Some of my favourite brands include Lanolips, Carmex and Vaseline. I literally always have a lip balm in my handbag. You can read my Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm Review here.

And of course, when the sun starts to shine that little bit more, I like to make doubly sure that I’m wearing a lip balm that contains SPF.

For some reason, people don’t always think of their lips when talking about skincare products - but just like the rest of our faces (and entirety of our bodies, for that matter!), our lips can burn, too. So, we need to protect them.

3. Use a fake tan mist

One thing that I absolutely love using during the summer time in particular (but all year round, to be honest!) is fake tan. I’m not one to go lounging int he sun for hours, baking my skin in the hope that I’ll go a couple of shades darker.

Instead, I turn to the bottle, and treat my skin to a UV-free glow that won’t damage my skin.

My favourite fake tan brand, as you all know, is St Tropez. And right now I am completely obsessed with the St Tropez Purity range. You can check out my post 'How I Tan Using The St Tropez Purity Collection.'

The St Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist is one of my favourite fake tan products ever - and the clear formula is perfect for creating a light, natural-looking tan

4. Invest in a Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C is important all year round, not just in summer. But when the weather gets warmer and our skin is exposed to the sun more than it usually is, it’s especially important that we do whatever we can to prevent issues such as hyperpigmentation.

I love the Revolution Beauty Vitamin C Serum - it's super lovely to apply & great value for money. Although I'd love to try include the Dr Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Brighten & Firm Vitamin C Serum, as I believe it's supposed to be fabulous.

5. Exfoliate more often

We’re often being told to limit the number of times we exfoliate to just once each week - but if there’s ever a time to scrub up, it’s summer.

The combination of increased sweating and layers of SPF can disrupt our skin. So, to help avoid any uneven skin texture and to really slough away all the grime and dead skin cells lurking on our faces, be sure to exfoliate regularly.

I recommend using both a physical exfoliant and a liquid exfoliator, too - just not at the same time. Toners containing Glycolic Acid naturally exfoliate the skin, all whilst giving the complexion a good old glow up (I love the Facetheory Glycolacsal Solution, which contains a combination of Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid & Lactic Acid.) Meanwhile physical face scrubs are great for smoothing the skin’s texture and providing that squeaky-clean feeling we all love. The Nip & Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub is great, but it's powerful, so should always be applied very gently.

6. Stay hydrated

And finally, I couldn’t possibly bring this blog post to a close without mentioning the importance of staying hydrated.

Aim to drink 8 glasses of water each day in order to keep your skin looking clear and radiant (all whilst keeping your body functioning well, of course.)

If you struggle to chug 3 litres of water a day, be sure to check out my blog post 'How To Drink More Water Without It Feeling Like a Chore'  for some friendly advice.

I really hope you all enjoyed this post & I can’t wait to share more with you soon.

Lots of love,

Grace x
