HOW TO HAVE THE BEST NIGHT'S SLEEP EVER: 8 TIPS FOR THE DREAMIEST SLUMBER.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a self-confessed over-doer. I rarely ever spend my spare time just lounging around or enjoying my surroundings - I am quite literally always ‘doing.’ Even when I am super tired and know I need to rest, I force myself to do more, and though I hate to admit it, I really should take my own advice once in a while - 'get some rest!'

I think this habit of always needing to feel busy comes from my natural determination to succeed and to do the best I possibly can. But recently, I’ve really been feeling the effects of my non-stop life, and Ive been longing for a decent rest. A long, uninterrupted, good night's sleep. So, for this blog post I am going to share my top tips for the best night's sleep ever. I really hope you enjoy!

Top tips for a good night's sleep

1. Reduce screen time before bed

I’m not much of an Instagram scroller anymore, but I do still reach for my phone before I go to sleep. I’ll do everything from write lists of things I need to do, grocery shopping and planning future blog posts. I try to be productive right until that very last waking hour of the day - which really, is totally unrealistic - not to mention incredibly bad for sleep. Whilst we are using our phones, we are preventing our brains from winding down and switching off for the night. So, unless you absolutely have to, ditch the devices until morning.

2. Get a pillow spray

Create a serene sleep setting with the help from a pillow spray. Fragranced with the likes  of lavender and lemongrass, the therapeutic notes help relieve tension, encourage relaxation and induce sleep quality.

This Works do a fabulous range of pillow sprays at a fairly affordable price point. Or, if you’re looking for something even more purse friendly, try the Lab Tonica Scented Pillow Mist.

3. Have a read

Reading before bed is great for really winding down. Opt for a book or magazine with soothing o relaxing content, if uou can. I personally really enjoy self help books and home interior magazines (country homes magazine is my absolute favourite!)

If uoure in need of a couple of book recommendations, try giving 'The Secret' a go, or 'The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**$.' Steven Bartlett’s 'Happy Sexy Millionaire' is next on my reading list. I love an inspirational book!

4. Avoid caffeine before bed

I feel a bit of a hypocrite for writing this one out, because I almost always have a cup of tea before bed - but for most people, caffeine before bed isn’t a good idea, particularly those that are bad sleepers.

If uou do enjoy a hot drink before bed, swap your usual caffeinated beverage for a chamomile tea, something herbal or even a Horlicks.

5. Adjust room temperature

One of the biggest things to impact how well we sleep is the temperature of the room we are in, which is why it’s important to make sure the heating is set just right.

It’s also worth thinking about what you wear to bed, too. During the summer months, I opt for lightweight garments and short pyjamas, whereas in the winter, my go-to nightwear is long and in a thciker material.

6. Find a fabric conditioner you love

Having a pillow spray to hand definitely helps, but if your bedsheets are fragranced with a fabric conditioner you really like, then this will make uour sleep even better.

Fabric conditioner keeps our sheets smelling fresh, which can really help maximise our quality of sleep. I love the Lenor Spring Awakening - it’s soothing but refreshing.

7. Avoid sugary snacks

Snacking on sweet treats before bed is something many of us are guilty of, but for bad sleepers especially, artificial sugars are a bad idea. Sugar is a stimulant, which can seriously hinder our quality of sleep and keep us awake longer than we would like to be. Instead, munch on something savoury or turn your attention to more natural sugars. I’m really enjoying munching on watermelon before bed at the moment - it's definitely my favourite fruit!

8. Wear your favourite pyjamas

This might sound like a bit of a weird one, but I honestly find that this helps me sleep so much. It’s the same sort of effect a crisp white blouse and some form-fitting trousers provide when you’re in business-mode - that professional sort of outfit makes you feel more motivated. And pyjamas do the same - a gorgeous pair will help you to wind down and really sink into that slumber setting!

If you're in need of some new pyjamas or you simply feel like treating yourself, I couldn't recommend Chelsea Peers more. I discovered this brand whilst browsing through Instagram and I am honestly obsessed! There are so many gorgeous designs to choose from, and they really do look and feel so luxurious - I expected them to cost so much more than they do, which is always a wonderful surprise!

And that's just about it - 8 simple tips for a great night's sleep!

I really hope you all enjoyed this blog post and I can't wait to share more with you all very soon.

Lots of love,

Grace x
