The current situation means that among a whole host of other restrictions, worries and rules, we can't pop out and enjoy our favourite beauty treatments. However, whilst this isn't exactly ideal, the good news is that we can still enjoy certain treatments in the comfort of our own homes. Yes, some require a little more perseverance than others, but practice makes perfect and now is the ideal time to invest in a few new products and bits & pieces to complete your home salon setup.

This photograph was actually taken on my wedding day, but I thought it tied in nicely with the post as I did all my own makeup |
So, if like me your eyebrows are looking a little (okay, a lot) wild and your nails are looking more shabby than they are chic, then you've arrived at the perfect place. In this blog post I'm going to talk to you about my best-loved at-home beauty treatments that have been keeping me fresh and fabulous recently. I hope you enjoy!
Gel Manicure
I've actually been doing my own shellac nails for years now and you know what? I'm actually pretty good at them now!
In my opinion, a gel manicure is just an absolute necessity. When applied correctly, gel nail polish can remain perfectly chip-free for up to three weeks, making it way more long-wearing than regular nail polish - and it just looks tons better, too.
My favourite gel polish brand is Candy Coat as they just have so many beautiful colours and the quality is just fantastic.
Candy Coat gel polishes are just fabulous |
Below I have listed everything you'll be needing should you wish to invest in your own gel nail kit:
- Nail files - including nail buffer
- Cuticle trimmer
- UV lamp - I've got the Unisun UV Nail Lamp
- Gel nail primer
- Gel nail base coat & top coat
- Selection of gel nail colours (I have loads!)
- Cuticle oil
- Gel nail remover solution - I use the Candy Coat Popping Candy as it makes the process of removing gel so much easier!
If you have any questions, just drop me a message or comment in the box at the bottom of this blog post.
Skincare Products
There's nothing quite like that post-facial feeling. The skin is all smooth, soft and de-congested - and it just glows beautifully. So, if your missing your monthly facial, then trust me, I totally get why.
Unfortunately, I can't magically reopen your local salon - nor can I arrange for a beauty therapist to pop round to your house to give you that glow-up your desperately craving. However, what I can do is recommend a selection of skincare products that will leave your complexion looking radiant and feeling gorgeous. So, let's get to it!
- L'Oreal Pure Clay Bright Mask
- L'Oreal Smooth Sugars Nourish Scrub
- CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
- Revolution Glycolic Acid Tonic
- Revolution Hyaluronic Acid Serum
- Nivea Q10 Power Sleeping Mask
- Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream
Hair Care Products
I'll be completely honest - I haven't been doing anything at all with my hair recently. I've been taking a break from heated appliances entirely, simply because I haven't felt the need to style my hair. And as a result, my hair has maintained a pretty good condition in spite of the fact I haven't been able to get it cut by my stylist, Angie.
If your hair is looking/feeling less than fabulous right now, then don't stress - there are still things you can do to help improve its condition and appearance, even if you can't get it coloured & cut like you'd love to.
Firstly, I'd highly recommend investing in a deep-conditioning hair mask and applying that once or twice a week. Here are a few I've used in the past and loved:
Secondly, take a break from your hair dryer, straighteners and curlers - or reduce how much you use them, at least. This will help keep those split ends at bay and allow your hair chance to strengthen itself and repair.
Thirdly, be sure to use a serum or some kind of leave-in treatment. Leave-in hair products are great as they continue to work their magic throughout the day. The hair serum I'm currently using and really loving is the Keronics Glossing Serum which is an absolute steal at just £1!

Fake Tan
Missing your golden glow? I feel you. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being fair-skinned and fabulous, but for me, being bronzed trumps embracing the pale any day. I'm just one of those people that feels 100 times more confident when I'm tanned, and so in spite of the fact we can't actually go anywhere right now, I've still been making the effort to tan once a week. It makes me feel really good about myself.
There are loads of great fake tan products available to choose from these days, but for me, it just has to be St Tropez. I've been using the St Tropez Original Bronzing Mousse for years and I'm still completely in love with it - it's amazing! I'm now also addicted to the St Tropez Self Tan Purity Face Mist, which is ideal for achieving a natural-looking face tan.
If you're a tanning novice or you'd simply like to find out more about fake tan, my blog post 'How To Fake Tan Like A Professional' is a must-read.

Fingers crossed, it won't be too long now until there's a little more light at the end of the tunnel with this horrific pandemic, but in the meantime, if a little at-home pampering is what's needed to revive your mood, then hopefully this post has helped you.
I look forward to sharing more with you all very soon & I hope that you're all keeping safe.
Lots of love,
Grace x
